"view active topics"?

Rather than display recent or unread posts is there a way to have an "active topics" display instead?

What do you consider to be "active" topics? Unlocked? Unsolved? Having replies in the latest xx days?

A display of any topic thread, not posts, with posts in the last week would be great.  Many of our posters take a quick look at a thread and then go away from the computer.  The thread has been read and so it no longer displays as unread.  An "active topics" is  preferable for our users because they can come back later, in a day or two, and see the threads easily.

It is, for sure, doable, it just requires enough coding

Yeah, either as a box down below or a link to click which displays the threads.

SMF 2.0 does not do this, out of the box.
Actually making this change is a customization.

You would want to make a change to
1) add a link to the "hello" box of the theme that would call this "recent topics" action
2) add an action that would handle this link
3) Possibly add a template to display this differently than the current "unread" actions are displayed.

Is that correct?

Do any of the mods you can find by searching the mods site sound like they do what you want?

If you want more "fancy" stuff on your forum, you might some day be looking for a portal mod.
