"collections" icon mod...

So, I am admining a site on which people like to show off the things that they have built or otherwise acquired for their collection.

so, they put a series of image in the signature field....
Unfortunately, this takes up a fair amount of space.

I have worked with the artist who makes these "tags" and gotten each image individually... (e.g. each row in the the image above)

Now I would like to make an option in the profile section for which a user can select the "tag(s)" for the sabers he/she has...
and then choose display location - similar to the custom profile fields...

I tried coding this myself, but it's a failure at the moment.
I would use the custom profile fields -- but the correct option for this (checkbox) would require me to enter 30+ individual fields (one for each image)
or only allow each user to select one image (radio button)
neither option is a good choice...
I'd LIKE a profile field that displays multiple options (like radio button does) but then allows the user to SELECT multiple options of that single profile field
