If I find a member's email is no longer valid, will removing it in their account settings require them to confirm a new one before logging in?

Kindred

no...   you can not remove the email address -- smf allows the user of the email address as an alternative to username for login - every account must have a unique email address.

and if you delete it somehow, that will not trigger a request for a new one.

Is there a way to require a new email confirmation?

Kindred

no

well, if you have email confirmation, it MAY require a confirmation if the user himself changes the email - but I don't think so

If member changes his email address in profile, and 'Require reactivation after email change' is enabled, member is logged out, activation email is sent, and either member or admin must reactivate the account.  If admin changes member's email address, activation is not required.  Neither admin nor member can remove email address, it throws an error if field is blank.
