Custom theme for my forum

Hi All
I'm looking at starting my new hobby forum soon and want to customise its colours with a special camo background and different buttons on the index page and a army rank system instead of the standard system.
Can I do all this with the free Simple machines software?
How would I go about setting these tasks up?

yes it can be done with SMF. it would be easier to answer the how after you have actually installed SMF and take a look at the admin panel and see if you can figure out how to set your ranks.

Ranks are really easy to set up. I LOVE your idea about army ranks, that's really cool!

You might be able to find a free army theme or you might need to pay a designer to do it.
