Hello,
i'm using SMF v2.0.10 and i'm experiencing this problem (it seems to appear only with Chrome): users got logged out every time they close the browser (or tab).
But it happens only for the main page of the forum, i mean the forum index page.

Example:
i go to the forum index page, i log-in and then i close the tab. When i open again the forum index page i have to log-in again.
But if i open any section of the forum, instead of forum index, it results that i'm still logged in.

What could be the problem?

(sorry for my english)

Check your servers cookie settings, if their disabled then re-enable them.

Livaco --- What?? ???

smartmouse - is this anyone who uses Chrome or just you?
If just you -- check your Chrome settings and confirm that you are a) not using "private browsing" and b) your chrome cookies setting is set to NOT delete cookies when you close the window.

if it is multiple people, please tell us what your server settings are in the SMF admin
Local cookies?
subdomain independent cookies?
database driven sessions?

Anyway, why do i need to enable that option? I never need it.
Maybe i get this problem since i installed responsive theme one month ago... i can't remember...

I mean, why did i need to enable "Subdomain independent cookies" option? What does it mean?
It is about 10 years that i use SMF with my forum and i have never enabled it. What could be the reason?

Kindred

Maybe your host changed something....

subdomains are the part before your domain...   blah. com

so ble.blah .com is the subdomain ble in the main domain of blah

www.blah .com is actually (technically) a subdomain of blah .com
