Hi,

I have some users posting their "diary" in forums, and i have been already asked by users to add "blog" facility to the forum. I think it would be a very nice addition to forum, that every user has his own blog. It may look like this: someforum.dom/blog/user1,
being embedded into forum's body, with ability to comment.

If such a mod already exists - give me links please!

I was going to something similar and found it easier just to install wordpress.

I installed and setup wordpress on my site and tied the log-ins from the forums.  It was VERY ad-hock as in I fixed stuff in the wordpress code until I got it working (Trial and error).  But wasn't that complicated.

Would you be willing to tell us how to do that? I'm sure there are quite a few people who'd like to know. If willing, you may want to add it to the "Tips and Tricks" section.

I, for one, would be really interested in knowing how to do this.

Depends what people want to do.  Mine is kind of half-assed, but I'm sure it could be changed to be more built in.

Currently, in order to post comments on my blogs you have to be a registered member of the forum, I tied it in using SSI.php and modding the wordpress comments.php to check to ensure your logged into the forums.

But posting blogs right now is limited to users of wordpress, since I will only have a handfull of people on my site allowed to blog (it's semi-commercial).

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to change the username / password lookup in wordpress (wp-login.php) to use the forum login password routine instead via the context variable.

If you would like to know how I did MINE I can get that information together, but to allow users to create blogs would be something on top of what I did.  Anyone php savy could do it in a day or so.

My blogs aren't up and running yet, as I have to ensure content approval before starting it off, but if you want to take a peak at what I did (with some "test" blogs).  You can go to http://www.cartalkcanada.com/blog

This should be possible in-forum with the available permissions (delete replies to own theread), but there is a bug with that permission. 'Unknown' indicated some time ago that it may be fixed in 1.1, but then in another post he seemed to indicate that it will not be fixed in the foreseable future, as it wasn't important. - It is important to me! :(

Can soneone tell me if this bug has indeed been fixed in 1.1? - It would make in-forum blogging possible; no need for any mod, or feature addition.

Thanks.

smartForum.ca

just make a forum where each user can moderate their own topics and each member gets their own subforum with the same permissions - their "blog"

Col

I thought of that, but I really don't want to have to set up, and maintain that many boards. 'Manage boards' could become very over-burdened with boards, that should be threads.

sadiqbaig

i just want to have a blog board where users

have all the permission for adding / deleting their own post

is it possible

Col

It should be possible now, but there is a bug with the "delete replies to own thread" permission. I'd really like to see this fixed.
