Excellent work Torkil,
I really like the site, very crisp clean and smooth navigation - definately a job well done ;)
Cheers

Yay, thanks :) The top menu consists of auto generated images that use the imagettftext()-function in php and a font file I have uploaded to my system. Maybe not the most searchengine-friendly solution, but I had to compromise there to get the design I wanted. I'll try to add a sitemap to compensate a bit :)

Hey all,

Great little plug-in Chadness, keep up the good work. Also, congrats to you and your wife in regards to the new addition to the family. Kids truly are a blessing! :)

When you get the chance, I have a bit of a problem. I've killed access to my Joomla site.  :(

Here are the specs:

Joomla 1.0.8
SMF 1.1 RC2
Your plug-in, version 4.1 beta 6

After adding the few lines of code to the template's index.php file my homepage [nofollow] now shows up with the following error:

Warning: main(/home/thesaint/public_html/administrator/components/com_smf/config.smf.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/thesaint/public_html/mambots/content/smf.discussbot.php on line 30

Warning: main(/home/thesaint/public_html/administrator/components/com_smf/config.smf.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/thesaint/public_html/mambots/content/smf.discussbot.php on line 30

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/home/thesaint/public_html/administrator/components/com_smf/config.smf.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/thesaint/public_html/mambots/content/smf.discussbot.php on line 30

http://www.saintlink.com/downloads/index.php.txt [nofollow] (This is my template's index.php file, should you need to inspect it. Did I put a space in the file that shouldn't be there? Is it something that needs to be configured in the Joomla admin? In the mambot control panel I put the name of my database in the box that requested it. Any tips would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I could still use a hand in getting my site back online if someone has any suggestions. It has been offline for a couple of days now, any assistance would be fantastic. Thank you.

Are you able to get in to the admin section?  If so, I'd recommend removing the mambot.  Try reinstalling beta 5 - beta 6 really shouldn't be used.

If you're unable to get in to the admin, try deleting the smf.discussbot.php and smf.discussbot.xml from your mambots directory.

TheSaint

The mambot uninstalled just fine and the problem went away. I'm going to go back now and try the beta 5 you suggested. Thanks!

May I suggest (instead  of generating graphics), using FLASH instead?
SIFR

Inline Flash Replacement, uses a bit of Javascript and a font of your choosing embedded in a SWF file, to on the fly replace text of a particular class with a FLASH program that displays that text, beautifully formed and scaled

*NO*

using flash like that depends on users to have specific software installed...

While flash has its place, non-flash content is always superior in a general product.

hi

I downloaded this yesterday the beta 5 version, Im using smf 1.1rc2 and joomla 1.0.7.

What template are you supposed to put the code in?  I stuck it in the bottom of my joomla template (theme) index.php and the site went loopy and wouldnt load and gave me a bunch of what looked like code or debugging messages at the bottom of the site.

Also the tag where you put the name of the board, was just displaying in the content at {mos...... xxx board} and not providing a link to the forum

I currently use html href to link content to the forum but that is a little tricky for others to use so just being able to give them the {mos... board} tag to use would be a lot easier but I need more instructions on how to get it working properly.

any help appreciated

Kindred

as noted a couple of times, some servers have issues with the discussbot.  Seriously, I have not been able to figure out why, myself, but I can get the discussbot working on 3 of my sites... but one 2 others, the instant I install and add the code, the site breaks.

Yeah, that's the right spot.  Like Kindred said, it doesn't always work with some web sites.  I haven't been able to nail down why, either.

Well...since the other topic was closed...

Chad...just wanted you to know that I just installed the bot v 4.1 beta 5 with only minor hiccups on SMF 1.1 RC2, bridge 1.1.5 and Mambo 4.5.3h. Here were the hiccups:

The new link that appears above the posts that appear in the article was missing a "&" before the "topic" section of the link. The regular old discussbot link is fine...

Since I didn't want this feature anyway, I just turned it off...

The other hiccup wasn't a hiccup at all...I simply did not need to add that posted code to the bottom of my template.

Will I need it if I turn on SEF?

chadness

No, the pasted code has been supplanted by the mambot in the later versions of the bridge.

This error is showing at the bottom of my front page. Anyone have any thoughts as to what is going wrong?

You need this on the bottom of your Joomla template:

<?php mysql_select_db($GLOBALS['db_name']); ?>

fuziononline

Still no change. I do have smf and joomla installed in separate databases but I have made sure that the users are added in each one.

Any other suggestions?
