Installation Error in Step 2

Hi there.

I am just trying to install SMF, without success.

I did enter all the stuff in step one, after I made the folders writable manually, works good, no error message and it seems that the installer already installed the tables on the DB.

In stop 2, though, where I enter the username and password, email and master pw, after I click on "Finish", this error appears:

QuoteCannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.
If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.

I don't quite get this, because I am just entering my own username.

I tried to enter false database info and then an error message appears even BEFORE I get to step 2.

Does anybody have an idea what the problem is?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Patrick

The password you're entering is the same as what you entered before, right? Not sure what could be causing the issue.

Hi, yes, this is not the problem. I entered the password and the verification.

I was just reading the installation manual and realized that I did not see the screen where it's working through all the lines and saying "ok" or "success" on the end.

But also I did not get an error message...

I tried to enter the database info into the settings files directly, but I can't log in, because I did not create a user.... can you tell me where I can set up the username manually? Maybe this works....

Thanks!
Patrick

Register a new account through SMF, then run this query in phpMyAdmin:

UPDATE smf_users SET ID_GROUP = '1';

Normally you'd need to specify a username or member ID in that query, but because there will only be one user in the database, we can safely update all users this time.

All right. I'll try that.

Thanks! :-)

Yes. Works fine...
But it's

UPDATE smf_members SET ID_GROUP = '1';

by the way..

Ok, I have my admin account set up and all. I hope I did not forget anything.

Can you tell me if I have anyting else to do, when I set it up manually?

Thanks,
Patrick
