Instructions for upgrading from 1.1RC1 + bridge v3.19?

Hi,

Can you please post what the upgrade steps are from SMF 1.1RC1 and bridge 3.19 to SMF 1.1RC2 and bridge 3.20?

Should we remove all previous SMF related components from Joomla (com_smf, login module, mambots, etc.) manually, then upgrade SMF and then install the smf component on Joomla?

If so, the SMF login module (on SMF side) that we installed for 3.19 will still exist, should we remove that manually?

Also, what happens to the SMF login module on Joomla that we installed for 3.19?

Finally, I was thinking about using: smf_1-1-rc2_update.zip, but website says: "Update package from the previous version, except when you have mods installed". Since we have the login module for SMF (so that logins can be integrated with joomla), do we have to use smf_1-1-rc2_upgrade.zip instead?

In summary, would it be possible to write up the steps for upgrading ?

Thanks...

Orstio

There are two ways.

Both start with Upgrading/Updating your forum, whatever you prefer.  3.20 does not require any mods to SMF, so you don't need to worry about losing the integration mod package.

Then:

1)  You can uninnstall the bridge component, the registration component, and the login module from your Joomla admin panel.  Then install the com_smf.zip from the new bridge, and all three will be reinstalled as the new versions.  You will still need to configure them.

Or:

2) You can unzip the com_smf.zip in the new bridge, and upload the files to their proper  locations by FTP.  If you overwrite config.smf.php and config.smf_registration.php, you will need to configure the components.

Orstio,

Thanks for the quick reply, two quick follow-up questions:

1.
Quote"3.20 does not require any mods to SMF, so you don't need to worry about losing the integration mod package.

I am not worried about this, but was specifically asking, whether we need to explicitly delete this or not? Looking at the discussions here, it looks like we should, right?

2. In 3.19, we used to have a login module, and a separate mod_xyz.zip file for that which was supposed to be installed. And, it looks like we don't have this anymore, is this correct? If so, (2) nd option you gave won't work, because we will still have that module for logging in, which would probably be incompatible with 3.20?

Once again, thanks for your help...

1) Upgrading your forum will most likely uninstall the mod.  You don't need to reinstall it.

2) Installing the com_smf.zip as a component in Joomla will force Joomla to auto-install the new registration component and login module.  They are still there, I just condensed the installation into a single click instead of multiple upload/installs.  ;)

when you upgrade your SMF, it will remove the previous mambo mod...
