Will there be something like the MemberMap mod?
I wanted to install it in my YaBBSE forum but then decided to wait until the first release of SMF (a long time, I must say) because maybe it will be included or incompatible.

(I don't know if someone already requested it, it's hard to browse 31 pages of Feature Requests.)

Grudge

It has already been ported by Gobalopper and will be available as a mod
I'm only a half geek really...

pulpitfire

just scan the first page, and do a search for "membermap".

Fizzy

Yummm ! ;D

I wonder if the graphics will be the same ?
If anyone needs the matching British Isles map just give me a shout

Actually its completely different this time, instead of placing pins on a single map your pin is relative to a world map with other the maps based on specified co-ordinates/scale. You can see it in action on my board and a few other charter members have it installed, I think Kris was saying he already had 200 pins or something.

You've excelled yourself  ;D

That looks a zillion times better than what came before.

This is nice! I see it doesn't have fixed-size maps anymore. But, can we add our own maps?
I had started to make detailed maps for Greece (prefectures, cities), but now I stopped and I'm waiting for the release of SMF.

You could but it would be a little harder then last time. I suppose if you knew the scaling of that map based on the world map... Of course you could always just make your own maps to replace the current ones.

vkot

oops! things are getting complicated now... I really need to make a Greece map, it wouldn't be nice to have hundreds of pins covering our little country. Can/will you provide this information in your mod or here?

I can create a zoomed in map of Greece for you and I will give some details once the public beta is out and I have the next version ready.

vkot

Great! do that, please. I will then need to make maps for the prefectures, I hope it won't be too difficult to adjust them for membermap :-\

I got 265 right now.

Have to zoom in on the detailed maps to see them better.

265 looks like this :)

Redeye

That's a real good job!

But I'm in much the same situation as vkot, our membership is solely based in the UK, so given that it's a great mod it going to be hell getting all the pins to show accurately.
Any localised map development in the pipeline?

Gobalopper

The world map is just one of the maps. The current version has these maps:

Africa
Australia
Canada
East Asia
Europe
Middle America
Russia
South America
USA
West Asia
North-West Europe
World

madfiddler

When will this be avaiable? I have a few hundred pins on my Yabbse membermap. Will these be lost in the convert?

Thanks,

Mark.

Gobalopper

Should be soon now that my classes are over for the term. And no you can't convert pins as the new version is completely different.

Randfee

well, where is the problem with making a version where everybody can define a picture size and with that, create his own maps?

for instance, I`d like to have

1) a worldmap
2) a germany map
3) a city map (for all the students, which street do you live in etc.)

I don`t see the problem with that?!?! Or just go and create a "new map" function with given picture-dimensions...

checked your map, like the idea but noticed pins are not fixed to the map position. Try resizing your window and you will see what I mean..

Randfee the basic idea is that there is a "worldmap" and all other maps are based off of that map. So the world map is like the big canvas and all pins fit somewhere on it. If you wanted a map of Germany you would take the world map and crop it so it only contains that area. And then if you wanted to zoom in you could then define the zoom level.
This does make it a little harder to do really zoomed in maps at the city level. But you would be able to make Germany your "world map" and then base all your pins off of that.

Oh already know about that problem 7summits. It isn't a huge deal but its something I am going to try to fix.

And what about those who want a world map, a couple of country maps and some city maps? On my site I have mostly members from Greece (where I want to have city maps) and Cyprus, and some of them in Europe or the rest of the world. The concept of the previous member map mod was simple and I could make maps easily.

Is there a possibility that we can have the previous (YaBBSE) member map mod in SMF?
Are there any alternative mods?
