Hi,

I'm just a user (or, more corrrectly, an intended user<g>) of an SMF 1.0.6 forum. And I searched the forums here, without success - and I contacted the admin person of the SMF board. The SMF install (1.0.5) was done with Fantastico. All "defaults"! And the webmaster updated SMF from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6 just because of this issue, but the problem remained.

I registered on SMF - no problems.

When I re-access the forum and sign in, I'm shown as signed in on the main screen. When I click on any of the individual boards, or select "my profile", etc, I'm switched to GUEST status. When I go back to the main page, I'm back as a signed-on user. This happens in IE and Firefox. If I try to delete my Profile it says "Not Found". Very peculiar...

I've not seen any issue like this elsewhere. And, I'm posting this message H-E-R-E, without this issue!!

I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you,

My personal guess would be that you are not accepting thrid party cookies, is this correct?

I have had a few of my usrs have the same problem becasue I run the forum in Iframe, how ever once I told to to add my site to the "trusted sites" list, they no longer had the problem.

Try that and see if it works.

Thank you, CJ.

I was unable to add the site to the Trusted list (the list was empty anyway), because that dialog requires "HTTPS://" entries. I did add the site to the "Allow Cookies" list, but it made no difference.

Maybe worth mentioning again that that site was new to me, and I joined the forum, and had the "Guest" problem. At the same time, I joined this forum (SMF), and have had no problem (nor any similar problem on any other forum!). All without changing anything in IE or Firefox.

Maybe it has something to do with the Hoster, but others are posting to the "problem" forum with no problems.

Post a link to your site.  Also, take a look at the actual URL when you are logged in, and when you switch to a guest.  I'm guessing you're losing the www., which makes all the difference when it comes to cookies.

Sorry for the delay...

The URL of the forum is hxxp:www.proffittcenter.lunarpages.net/smf/ [nonactive]

I checked the URLs, and the WWW shows always.

I still have no further ideas. The Webmaster confirmed that my registration was initially logged, so he deleted it, and I re-signed up, and the same issues arose again.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Resolved!

Thanks to CJ for mentioning "3rd Party" cookies.

As stated above, I tried to adjust IE, with no success. I also run with ZoneAlarm-Pro. Because I had normal access to THIS SMF forum, I reckoned all other SMF forums would operate similarly, and that it could not be a ZA/cookie issue on the other forum. BUT, IT WAS!

When I enabled "Session", "Persistent", and "3rd Party" cookies for the other forum in ZA, the "Guest" problem disappeared.

Thanks again for your help here.
