Is the "Post new poll" button really necessary? I found this to be really confusing for a big number of users, who just couldnt find where can day create a new poll. It looks like when ever they want to start somethin new, it is always a new thread.

And in this new thread, they want to add a poll. It's kinda logical for me too.

Thanks for this thread :)

I' just searching the board, because I could find the option, how to post a new poll ... I always started a new thread, and search for the option to add a poll. Additionally I was searching for over an hour in the Admin-CP for the poll-permissions :(

I don't recall what SMF looked like 3 years ago, but I do know that I'm constantly irritated by boobs who can't tell the difference between a new topic and a new poll. (Just to be clear, I'm not referring to the two earlier posters in this topic.) Why is that so hard to understand? I wish the SMF developers would make it much harder to create a poll. Do one of two things:

1) Keep the "start poll" link/button, but ask for confirmation that the member really wants to start a poll, rather than a regular topic. Explain that the member has asked to start a poll, and this is for other members to vote on two or more items. If they just want to ask a question or report a problem or whatever, click here to open a regular topic.

2) Remove the "start poll" link/button from the main page, and place it on the "start topic" page. Label it "Turn this question into a poll for people to vote on." Have a little poll graphic next to it so that it's not easily overlooked.

I think that either of those should be standard for SMF, to cut down on the number of stupid "polls" that shouldn't be. I don't want to remove the ability to start a poll on my forum, but I'm tired of having to manually update the forum to remove the poll from a topic.

BTW, in either case, it might be nice to check a box to forbid replies (vote only).
