1.1.rc2 install or 1.1.rc2 update? ... I Need Help.

I was reading the downloads page and I'm trying to upgrade to RC2. I guess I'm a bit confused...

SMF 1.1.rc2 install, says it's the installation package for SMF 1.1 RC2 (contains English only, download other languages below.) Use this for a new installation, just run install.php after uploading all the files.

SMF 1.1.rc2 update, says it's the update package from the previous version, except when you have mods installed. You can use the upgrade package too, but it's larger. Use this if you have SMF 1.0.5 or SMF 1.1 RC1, or higher installed. Remember to run upgrade.php, and if you're not using English get the new language files.

I'm on SMF 1.1 RC1, using the Simplicity design by Bloc, and I have the following mods installed:

1. Streaming_update 1_2_1a
2. Streaming RTSP_update RTSP_update
3. Streaming 4.2.1a 4.2.1a
4. Integrated Chat 2.3
5. Googlebot & Spiders Mod 1.0.4

Do I use the SMF 1.1.rc2 update, even though I have mods installed, or do I start with SMF 1.1.rc2 install and then go to the update? If I go with a fresh 'install,' won't that whipe everything out?

Aaron

Use SMF 1.1 RC2 upgrade instead, that'll do if you have installed any mods. :)

So use the upgrade. Gotcha. Now if upgrading, updates the php files, does it over-ride the theme and mods or does everything stay?

Aaron

It only affects the files which are changed. If your themes were in a non-default directory (e.g. babylon, classic, default) they're safe. You will lose all mods installed though.

:-\ So, I would have to reinstall my mods, but will I have to re-install my Simplicity theme as well?

Kindred

no. the theme will stay.

However, RC1 themes will not work properly on RC2. There are additional functions etc in RC2 that the RC1 theme may cause problems with...    so, you should probably uninstall the RC1 theme and install the RC2 version of the same theme (I know Bloc has released simplicity for RC2)

Understood. I'll remove any rc1 themes out and reinstall the rc2 themes instead.

But...Kindred...Bloc hasn't released the Simplicity theme for RC2 yet. I checked the thread for it and his site... :-\

Thanks for all the help though.  :D

Ok, I've tried this twice now... ::)

I've uploaded all files...and I'm trying to run the upgrade.php file...I get an error though:

The upgrader found some old or outdated files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package.

...At the top of the screen, the following show: tr('\$1', '&;=', '//,') . '.html\$2\"'", $buffer); } // Return the changed buffer. return $buffer; } ?>

Any clues?

Kindred

hmmm.... never seen that before.

I suggest uploading the full install version (take out the install.php and Settings.php before uploading.

then run upgrade again

Tried it...[edit]

I got this:

tr('\$1', '&;=', '//,') . '.html\$2\"'", $buffer); } // Return the changed buffer. return $buffer; } ?>
Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/bygmtydi/public_html/forums/upgrade.php on line 45

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/bygmtydi/public_html/forums/upgrade.php on line 45

Any clues?

Reupload ALL of the upgrade package files and use a different FTP client.

Do I need to delete or remove anything before trying a different client?

JayBachatero

No you can just overwrite.  Remember to use the upgrade package so that your forum doesn't break.

I tried a different client, with a new download of the rc2 upgrade:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/bygmtydi/public_html/forums/upgrade.php on line 45

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/bygmtydi/public_html/forums/upgrade.php on line 45

Same issue. Anything else?

Right, but the MySQL it's loaded onto has a password, that's where my forum's located. I get that error, when I go to the upgrade.php file to upgrade...I get no other options.
