Group synch "hides" people in group

OK, here's the weird thing.

With help from Orstio, I think I now understand the group synch function. I have a set of users on the site who have contributed articles and as such in Joomla, want to make them "Authors". So...it seems I needed to make a group in SMF that I add them to....in this case, I called it "NZMac.com Contributor". OK...so then go back into Joomla and the 1.1.4 bridge and see that in the groups tab I can say "NZMac.com Contributor = Authors".....I hit save, but then the setting refused to save.

So, I read in the 1.1.4 bugs that there is a group synch issue...I added a row and again (I now have 9) in the table mentioned via phpMyAdmin, but still the tab refuses to link Contributors to Authors.

So I think "Maybe it is set, but it just isn't showing that"...so I do a group synch and suddenly everyone in that group is now missing from in Joomla, but are still in SMF. So, I then think (OK, maybe I need to synch users)...which I do and I'm told via a long list that all users exist already....even though I can't find them in Joomla.

I'm confused.

As an example, take Belinda...
http://www.nzmac.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,178/action,profile/u,12

She's a member of the SMF group "NZMac.com Contributor" (and others) but when you go into somewhere like the CB list....

NOTE Be sure to choose "All users" from the pop-up menu before preceeding and seacrh for Belinda, she's now not there.

All authors have now vanished with the exception of one, who assigned as an author in Joomla before I did the group synch.

How about if you just change that group name to "Contributors" ?

phil_roy

Still no luck sorry. I can't get the "Groups" tab to save the fact that Contributors = Authors

Note my groups are...
* Administrator
* Global Moderator
* Moderator
* New Around Here
* Macguide Writer
* One of the Regulars
* One of the Faithful
* NZMac Diehard
* Contributor

By my count 9 groups, so I added one row to jos_smf_config..variable = sync_group, value 1=9, value 2 = 18, 3 & 4 NULL

Cheers,

QuoteBy my count 9 groups,

You need the actual GROUP_ID, not just a count of the number of groups...

phil_roy

Interesting...as in jos_smf_config (prior to adding a row) it just had (as value 1)  1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 as values.

In fact I think I should have (from smf_membergroups) 1,2,3,4,10,13,14,15 and now 16? Could you confirm?

I misinterpretted the comment in the bugs about just adding a row I think.

Thanks,

Phil

That all depends on what you have done with your SMF groups.  A default SMF installation has groups 1-8.  If you have deleted some of those, then they will no longer exist, so those numbers will mean nothing.  If you have added your own, there will be numbers greater than 8.

phil_roy

Yes sorry I have deleted and played around, as the forum used to be a phpBB one and had ranks that users of the site had come up with...so those numbers 1,2,3,4,10,14,15,16 are the group IDs as showing in the smf_membergroups table.

I bit the bullet and altered the settings to match those IDs and I can now set "Contributors" to equal "Authors" and I was abe to synch...and the people thate were "missing" are back.

Thanks heaps, that's all solved. Just need to hear from Kindred as to why a suggested fix deleted all registered and online dates from jos_users while info in smf is still there....
