You don't NEED anything.
SMF works just fine by itself.

However,  many admins like to customize their sites with themes or additional functionality.

THAT is up to you.  There is no set of "recommended" mods.

I meant if I install vanilla SMF, Do I need to install e.g. Google captcha, I really don't need anything complicated, I used PunBB before, but that one is dead...

Actually, I think it's the other way around. The inbox size limit is per group, and you can set it by editing the membergroup.
The limit for number of personal messages a user may send in an hour is global, and set through the Anti-Spam settings.

hmmmm....  ok, yes, you are correct.
Max personal messages is set per group

however, permissions-wise, I believe that I am correct...     you can not set specific permissions if the group is "inherited from" -- you need to change the group to be unique permissions and set the permissions for that group.
(since Guests can not view PMs, that means, inherited from Guests won't have that permission either.)

When you're using a single image, you don't need to change the position, so you could remove it. All you need is to add a background-image: url(../images/icon.png);
OR if you used a sprite, you need to edit the positioning using background-position: x y;

el creador del tema me dijo que no le puso el borde y el titulo usuario a los que son usuario y te pregunto si sabes poner eso? ya que al decirme eso es cosa del tema y no del foro. el dueño lo hara cuando tenga tiempo y no me digas que espere solo si sabes o no ponerlo?

The new user has zero posts in post count... but ARE the posts associated to the user?

Typically you need to do a recount posts after a reassignment in order for the post count to be updated... but if you're just going to delete the user anyway,  then it's not needed

i think this process was not working in SMF 2.0. i am not sure it got fixed in SMF 2.1. there may not be another option then manually deleting the posts/topics.

I go to new users profile and he has no messages and no topics... even if I delete the new user, nothing will change... I want to delete the thousands of spam posts from the spammer account... which I deleted and now he is a Guest but his topics remain...
