This is probably my lack of understanding but I note that there is an allowed file type field which is great but the file type is not entered as a filter when you search for a file. Am I missing something?
I am on windows 11.
Many thanks once again.
Barry.

No... attachments are not really searchable so there is no filter for that

Hi There Kindred,
Many thanks for your reply once again.
So how can we stop them uploading just what they like because putting in what you will allow does not stop them uploading anything they like. For arguments sake, my forum is a music forum and the only things that I want to allow is mp3's etc.
Many thanks once again.
Best regards,
Barry.

For that you must make use of the Allowed attachment extensions setting under Attachment security settings.

Hi Doug,
Many thanks for coming back to me.
That is where I have got my allowed types
The types that I have are txt, sty, mid, pad, mp3, reg, rgt
Check attachment's extension is ticked.
Re-encode potentially dangerous image attachments is ticked.
Perform extensive security checks on uploaded image attachments is also ticked.
So am I missing something else?
Many thanks and best regards once again.
Barry.

To clarify the problem...

You are saying that the attachment extensions are not being checked, correct?

So, you can upload, for example, a .pdf now?   Even with Check Attachment Extensions checked?

Hi There ShawnB61,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
Yes that is correct.
Best regards,
Barry.

Are you on 2.1.4?

What mods do you have installed?

I get a pretty clear error when I attempt to upload an attachment with a disallowed extension.

Hi Shawn,
Many thanks for getting back to me.
No mods. When I first tried there was no data and no theme just a brand new install.
I have since installed a theme but it is still using the forum default.
If you want to log into the site I can give you details.
Best regards,
Barry.
PS It is probably a user fault and senility!!!
