Hi, I want a mod like this.

Please check this MyBB mod for details:

http://mods.mybboard.net/view/mytwitterbb

~~this mod will automatically update a user's custom title every time he/she made a post to his/her twitter account.

Pleae make it SMF 1.1.8 to 1.1.10 compatible and of course for SMF 2.0.

So, first up, you need to add support for Twitter profile fields, meaning you either have to write this in manually, or bridge to an existing mod (both of which are complicated to do)

Then you have to consume your bandwidth to get the data, and also if Twitter is taking a long time to be available, your forum will also be delayed similarly. How often did you want to poll Twitter for updates? Bearing in mind you do a new request for every user who is on Twitter - on any busy site this will bring it to its knees.

~For busy forums, a scheduled task is a good option.

~Permissions will also help. Not all members can access this feature until they reach a required number of posts or maybe a feature available only for a specific membergroup.

For busy forums, a scheduled task is not a good option. If anything the opposite.

Permissions will limit the scope - but still for every member who has permission that's a page load. Once per hour would begin to hurt the forum if you have more than 50 eligible members or so.

I didn't realize those things. This is a nice feature but it also needs a lot of resources. Thanks for the insights.

That's also something the MyBB plugin author didn't comment on in the description, but that's exactly how it works.
