Just attempted to update SimplePortal 2.2.2 to 2.3 and the site crashed. Reloaded the backup and now the site shows 2.2.2 at bottom of page but in the packages it lists 2.3 as installed. I am pretty sure what is really installed is 2.2.2 but we really would like to update it the most current version. How should I proceed?

I posted this on 09/02 , anyone have an idea how to clean this up?

Edit: Sorry, we smashed it with a hammer and rebuilt it. :) problem solved

I am not sure what you mean by "the site crashed", so I cannot understand what kind of problems you ran into, or what caused them.

If you reloaded the database from backup, then you have the database you had before you attempted the SimplePortal update, except for any tables that may have been added since that backup -- they wouldn't have been removed.

But that did not do anything about the files. If you got a partial or complete install before the problems started, you have have a partial or complete installation of SimplePortal 2.3.

I am not sure where information about package versions is stored.  I thought that would be in the database, but apparantly not.

Not knowing what state your files in, I would suggest that you compare some of the affected files to the manual install instructions to see if they are at SimplePortal 2.3 or 2.2.2.  This is a tedious but straightforward process.  You can handle it.

If things seem to be in a really big mess, you might try an uninstall using the package manager then, when it fails, manually remove all traces of SimplePortal from all the affected files.  You will have to be thourough, and use the manual install instructions for both versions of SimplePortal to assure yourself you have removed everything.

Then, when you install SimplePortal 2.3.2, you are starting from scratch, SimplePortal-wise.

Good Luck!

ceewee

rss feed block keeps giving invalid charachters at line 27/49 and so on
Is on clean 2.0rc3

frantic

I think they already have a bug report for that on their site ceewee, although i wish the rss feed blocks had a 1 hour wait when they refresh or something.  If you have too many of those blocks, then it really bogs down the loading time of your site.

Afro

Do we have a code to call the registration form with a Custom block ?

Angelina Belle

@afro -- This could be done, but would take a bit of work.
But I see you have also asked at SimplePortal.net...

yep, i believe it will boost registration, if we have a complete registration form on the homepage.
please do get the code if you can.

I see your question has been answered at simpleportal.net, and you now have it working at your site.
If you have any more questions, please ask at simpleportal.net.

Is there a way to show inside the recent Post-Block the newest posts with the avatar from the author ? Maybe a custom PHP-block with recent posts and an avatar ?

Thank you

Just to explain, SP.net went down because I wasn't watching closely and we went over our bandwidth allotment. It was set at 20gb, so that's a very positive milestone for us!

I have upped the bandwidth limit, now I'm just waiting for the server to realize that it can operate again and accept visitors. Hopefully we'll be back up in a very short period of time. Thanks for your patience, guys!

i'm running smf 1.1.11 and simpleportal 2.3.2.  does anyone know how i can make the blocks transparent so the background image of the whole site shows through?  i have found the images i need to make transparent with the help of a friend, so i guess my real question would be how do i make an image transparent?  or add transparency to an image?

i know this is more of a photo editing question, but every place i've found via google just tells me how to make an image background transparent and not the image itself.

if anyone has any insight to offer on this, or perhaps an easier way to make the blocks transparent pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase tell me as i have been wrestling with this for too long now.  any help is appreciated, thanks, david.

There was some discussion of various strategies not too long ago: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=6212.0
Also: http://www.w3schools.com/Css/css_image_transparency.asp

If you wish to use semi-transparent images instead of using CSS for transparency, you will need to investigate your image-editing software, and save the results as PNG.

Weird.
After using SimplePortal Shoutbox my forum ended up in a 500 internal server error.

Any help?

I am having the exact same problem. If I create a Shoutbox block and leave it empty is displays clearly on the SimplePortal front page telling me the Shoutbox was part of my imagination. When I create a Shoutbox and add it to my portal page I get an Internal Server Error message.

Did you find a solution to this?

My site is at hxxp:club-phoenix.org [nonactive] - I am using SMF default template (I altered the colours in Photoshop) with SMF Gallery Lite 3.0.1, SimplePortal 2.3.2 and Ultimate Avatar Pack 1.1 active and Bakers Dozen Pages 1.2 installed but not applied.

ACAMS

I want to add BB code to the chat box, so I found shoutcode.php and edited it like this

WAS
[b]|^|<b>|^|[/b]|^|</b>|^|
[i]|^|<i>|^|[/i]|^|</i>|^|
[u]|^|<u>|^|[/u]|^|</u>|^|
[url]|^|[<a href='|^|[/url]|^|' target='_blank'>www</a>]|^|
[mail]|^|[<a href=\'mailto:|^|[/mail]|^|'>@</a>]|^|

I added
[b]|^|<b>|^|[/b]|^|</b>|^|
[i]|^|<i>|^|[/i]|^|</i>|^|
[u]|^|<u>|^|[/u]|^|</u>|^|
[url]|^|[<a href='|^|[/url]|^|' target='_blank'>www</a>]|^|
[mail]|^|[<a href=\'mailto:|^|[/mail]|^|'>@</a>]|^|
[spoiler]|^|<spoiler>|^|[/spoiler]|^|</spoiler>|^|
[move]|^|<marquee>|^|[/move]|^|</marquee>|^|
[moveright]|^|<marquee>|^|[/moveright]|^|</marquee>|^|

I even tried
[b]|^|<b>|^|[/b]|^|</b>|^|
[i]|^|<i>|^|[/i]|^|</i>|^|
[u]|^|<u>|^|[/u]|^|</u>|^|
[url]|^|[<a href='|^|[/url]|^|' target='_blank'>www</a>]|^|
[mail]|^|[<a href=\'mailto:|^|[/mail]|^|'>@</a>]|^|
[spoiler]|^|<spoiler>|^|[/spoiler]|^|</spoiler>|^|
[move]|^|<move>|^|[/move]|^|</move>|^|
[moveright]|^|<moveright>|^|[/moveright]|^|</moveright>|^|

Anybody got any ideas what I can do to get spoiler tags and move code to work?

THANKS for any help

I removed the Simple Portal 2.2.2 and installed the 2.3.2. When I go to the configuration I received this error as captured by my browser: (attached and in word 2003 for compatibility purposes)

Template Parse Error!
There was a problem loading the /Themes/default/PortalAdmin.template.php template or language file. Please check the syntax and try again - remember, single quotes (') often have to be escaped with a slash (\). To see more specific error information from PHP, try accessing the file directly.

You may want to try to refresh this page or use the default theme.
syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';'

I have no coding experience so I am lost as to how to fix this. Please help with this, I no longer have the 2.2.2 version to reload and I can't confirure the protal now and it is holding up the site which is already online. I would hate to have to restore the backup since there has been activity on the site saince the installation. Thanks for your prompt and extensive support. BTW: I love Simple Protal, have been running it since I first started the site in 2008. It is slim, efficient, and a breeze to work with. Keep up the great work!!!
