Rendering ftp links as http when not formatted

Hello!

Today I realized, through a user's complaint, that when you enter an ftp address without using the ftp tag, it gets formatted as an http link.

For instance, if I enter ftp. smf. org it will give  a link like http:// ftp. smf. org .

Shouldn't the system be able to differentiate between the two protocols and serve an appropriate rendering?

Cheers

Well, I didn't post it under Bugs because I didn't think it was one - just a suggestion on my part... but thanks for moving it nonetheless :)

Gryzor

Hey! Nothing? Noone? Am I the only one experiencing this?

i tried this ( Using windows 7 opera 10.60)

ftp.smf.org

I'm using Opera too (10.60/10.70), but I don't think it's a browser issue?

At least I'm not the only one :)

for me its working fine on FF also , any specific link on which you faced the problem ?

Hm, it's funny. Your url starts with the http handle, but the actual link has ftp in front of it... weird.

For me it's not URL-specific...

I'm typing this in Chrome - let's see:

ftp.testingftpurls.com

Huh! Weirder and weirder. It doesn't get converted!

Now trying with the ftp:// prefix:

ftp://cpcwiki.eu

Here it says http, but underneath it's ftp but WITHOUT the semi-colon. Positively broken...

Joker™

tried in all browsers,

IE , FF , safari , chrome , opera

ftp.testingftpurls.com

converted to

ftp://ftp.testingftpurls.com/

Fantastic :D

Has it been like that in older SMF versions, too? Strange that nobody caught this up to now...

Gryzor

After a bit more testing, it would appear that maybe this is a browser-specific bug. But why would it?

Check out the examples here: http://cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php/topic,1212.msg12296

Oya

this started happening on our forum when we moved to 1.1.11 but since ftp isnt common for us its ok never happened in 1.1.10

Gryzor

Yeah - it's not like it's a big problem or anything - quite minor, actually. But it's still a bug...

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D
