Question about HTML Entities for translation.

Hello

I am in the progress of making a Danish translation of SMF and i now have a question:

I have been using html  Entities to make the letters æ ø & å but in my browsers ( Firefox and IE ) it makes no difference if i use the  Entities or not. So my question is Why do i have to use the  Entities ?!?

For HTML validation reasons, it's better to use the entities.  If the character set is set properly, they may not be needed.
