Like... what page were you trying to go to! The page must have a URL...

That message isn't in the code for an unmodified SMF 2.1.2.

If you really have no mods, grab the large upgrade package for 2.1.2, unzip it on your computer then upload all the files over the top of what's on the server.

\sources\subs.php

defined('ABSPATH') or die("you do not have access to this page!");

Arantor

That's not stock SMF.

ABSPATH is a WordPress piece of code.

Did you put the SMF inside a subdirectory of a WordPress? If so, more likely a bad WP security plugin.

no, it's a sub but of a HTML page

Arantor

What you mean "it's a sub"? A subfolder? Subdomain? Something else?

Seriously, though, ABSPATH is the hallmark of WordPress or a WordPress plugin gone rogue.

subdirectory.

There is no other script in this cpanel account.

Arantor

And there's nothing in the parent folder?

The reason for my skepticism is that people have a curious habit of going 'oh, actually there is this thing...' when they've been adamant there wasn't anything.

I'm just suspicious that an SMF with no mods suddenly got code hijacked into it from WordPress on an account that apparently has no WordPress (when I've *absolutely* seen WordPress plugins do this)

How did you install SMF? Softaculous? The code that you posted assumes that SMF and WordPress are working together.
