Released at last  ;) Very nice work...

[criticism]I think the buttons are nice and simple, but a bit rough around the corners and on some text. Also, some of the text is not centered in the buttons and some are... eg, Go Up isn't and Print is...  ...thats all!!![/criticism]

More criticism/advice (sorry man :D)

1. You might want to really make the theme xhtml/css valid. Or else just remove the two buttons at the bottom, because your page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

2. The fonts on your buttons just don't fit the rest of the look. I can't tell which font it is (Trebuchet MS?), but when I first looked at it it looked like comic sans :-[ (Which obviously does not fit the look)

3. The forum title is still in the Georgia font. This can and should be modified for your theme. It's the same story as on point 2, it just doesn't fit the look.

But still, it looks good :D

I think it would look better if you select "enable inline links" in the theme options. But a very nice theme :)

The choice of font for the buttons is something I may change( the one I use now is called Informatic)....a more futuristic font may suit it better.

But I have changed the Georgia style :) and removed the css and xhtml validations - until I changed it to be valid.

Yes, that will be more in line with the style..I will probably change it on the site.

Do you have a  screenshot of it?

I am going to update the theme for RC1 and will polish it up a bit - been busy with upgrading to RC1 myself. ;) So if it has bugs, I would like to hear about them.

I see. Probably some error in treating the inline styles - I will try to fix it.

Superbean: Great buttons, I will try them and see. Maybe have the theme with 2 button sets...I kinda like my buttons although they need some tweaking... ;)

Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo

It does work , but there are a few tings that don't , like the upshrink button. If you want to try it, go ahead, I don't think it will destroy anything.. ;) Anyways, it will be slightly different when I redo it, but not totally different.

I will start on it, but first I have to finish my forum conversion to SMF ( it is YaBBSE 1.5.1 with supermod installed), not pausing for anything else right now.

Thanks!
Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo for RC1
Post by: bloc on September 30, 2004, 06:16:49 PM
Sure thing. Find this code in index.template.php:

echo '
                                               </td></tr></table>';

        echo '</div>'.$botbox.'</td><td colspan="2" width="50%" align="right" valign="top">' , isset($settings['userlogo']) ? '<a href=""><img src="'.$settings['userlogo'].'" border="0" alt="logo" /></a>' : '' , '</td></tr></table>';

        // news
            echo '
                   </div><div style="margin-top: 5px; padding: 0px; margin-left: 38px; margin-right: 38px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: center;">
                 '.$topbox.'<div style="border: solid 1px #c0c0c0; background: #edeeF8; padding: 3px;">'. $context['random_news_line'].'</div>'.$botbox.'</div><br />';

                // Show the menu here, according to the menu sub template.

And on the first line there just change it to:

        echo '<br />'.$context['current_time'].'
                                                </td></tr></table>';

This way it will show date/time for both members and guests.

Come to think of it, I think I will stick with that change - its nice to have the date actually. :)

hehe - don't mean to be a troll, but a user just pointed this out to me:

Quoteare you aware that on the main index page there are no labels for the numbers to the right of the forum folder?  ie no post/view count labels on the main index

Main link in case it's just my board:  http://www.raven-flight.com/community

I hadn't noticed it personally, and actually kinda like it like this board: http://www.praetorian-guard.com/forum

Can ya point me in the right direction?

Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo for RC1
Post by: bloc on October 13, 2004, 08:29:47 PM
hm. Did not notice that. Find the BoardIndex.template.php and look for this:

        foreach ($context['categories'] as $category)
        {
                echo '
<div class="tborder"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="5">
        <tr>
                <td colspan="5" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" height="18">';

                // If this category even can collapse, show a link to collapse it.
                if ($category['can_collapse'])
                        echo '
                        <a href="', $category['collapse_href'], '">', $category['collapse_image'], '</a>';

                echo '
                        ', $category['link'], '
                </td>
        </tr>';

                // Assuming the category hasn't been collapsed...

and replace with this:

        foreach ($context['categories'] as $category)
        {
                echo '
<div class="tborder"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="5">
        <tr>
                <td colspan="2" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" height="18">';

                // If this category even can collapse, show a link to collapse it.
                if ($category['can_collapse'])
                        echo '
                        <a href="', $category['collapse_href'], '">', $category['collapse_image'], '</a>';

                echo '
                        ', $category['link'], '
                </td>
                <td width="6%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[330], '</td>
                <td width="6%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[21], '</td>
                <td width="22%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[22], '</td>
        </tr>';

                // Assuming the category hasn't been collapsed...

The changes is in bold text. This will display posts/threads etc. on the same line as the category...a quick fix, but hopefully usable.

And this is not troll-material , rest assured..  ;D

Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo for RC2 ( + RC1 )

Fixed it myself in boardindex.template.php under apollo theme

Find this:
                </td>
                <td width="6%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[330], '</td>
                <td width="6%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[21], '</td>
                <td width="22%" class="catbg', $category['new'] ? '2' : '', '" align="center">', $txt[22], '</td>        </tr>';

Now just swap $txt[330] and $txt[21] and you'll be all set.

Could you give us the code to add to put the inline links and the previous/next buttons at the bottom of the message index?

Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo for RC2 ( + RC1 )

Sure. :)

First, look for:

        // Finish off the form - again, if Quick Moderation is being done with checkboxes. (1)
        if (!empty($options['display_quick_mod']) && $options['display_quick_mod'] == 1 && !empty($context['topics']))
                echo '
                        <input type="hidden" name="sc" value="' . $context['session_id'] . '" />
                </form>';

        echo '
                <table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" border="0" class="tborder" style="margin-top: 1ex;">
                        <tr>
                                <td align="left" class="catbg" width="100%" height="30">
                                        <table cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
                                                <tr>
                                                        <td><a name="bot"></a><b>', $txt[139], ':</b> ', $context['page_index'], $modSettings['topbottomEnable'] ? $context['menu_separator'] . '<a href="#top">' . ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/go_up.gif" alt="' . $txt['topbottom4'] . '" border="0" align="top" />' : $txt['topbottom4']) . '</a>' : '', '</td>
                                                        <td align="right" nowrap="nowrap" style="font-size: smaller;">', theme_show_buttons(), '</td>
                                                </tr>
                                        </table>
                                </td>
                        </tr>
                </table>
                '.$botbox;

Then, just add this code right below:

        echo '
                <table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">
                        <tr>
                                <td><a name="top" style="padding-left: 20px"></a>', theme_linktree(), '</td>';
        if (!empty($settings['display_who_viewing']))
        {
                echo '
                                <td class="smalltext" align="right" style="padding-right: 20px;">';
                if ($settings['display_who_viewing'] == 1)
                        echo count($context['view_members']), ' ', count($context['view_members']) == 1 ? $txt['who_member'] : $txt[19];
                else
                        echo empty($context['view_members_list']) ? '0 ' . $txt[19] : implode(', ', $context['view_members_list']) . (empty($context['view_num_hidden']) || $context['can_moderate_forum'] ? '' : ' (+ ' . $context['view_num_hidden'] . ' ' . $txt['hidden'] . ')');
                echo $txt['who_and'], $context['view_num_guests'], ' ', $context['view_num_guests'] == 1 ? $txt['guest'] : $txt['guests'], $txt['who_viewing_board'], '</td>';
        }
        echo '
                        </tr>
                </table>';

That should give you the inline links+guests/members viewing both on top and bottom of the messageindex. In fact - it looks really good so I am keeping it altogether. ;) Thanks for the suggestion.

Awesome! I am updating all my Bloc themes today for my new MODs and update to version 1.0.

Also, are you adding some more Icons to the Button Maker anytime soon?

Can I assume that Apollo is 1.0 ready? I am using it now, and do not see a problem. Is there one?

No problems per se...but it has not got the "got last post" icon in MessageIndex.

I plan to update all themes before this weekend though.

hey Bloc,  great theme.

I have one small problem though, the link tree was just not working, it would only display as a straight line. This is in version 1.0.1.

So I changed the function code in index.template copying that from the default theme, and it now works, but with a minor hiccup.  See screenshots.

Thanks

Find this code in Index.template.php :
        // news
        if (!empty($settings['enable_news']))
            echo '
                   <div style="margin-top: 5px; padding: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: center;">
                 '.$topbox.'<div style="border: solid 1px #c0c0c0; background: #edeeF8; padding: 3px;">'. $context['random_news_line'].'</div>'.$botbox.'</div>';
       echo '</div><br>';

The thing to change here is the line '.$topbox.'<div style="border: solid 1px #c0c0c0; background: #edeeF8; , where changing this last color-code with something else will change just the background of the "inner box" of the news-box.

Thanks a lot. Can we do that with CSS?

I would also like to change the color of the box that appears on the top with "Hey, Numair, you don't have any messages... "

The sky blue color that you have given in the above mentioned box and in the News box does not look good with the other colors of the forum and looks a bit odd (sorry).

Can you please suggest me some color that will match with the rest, as I have no much knowledge about color schemes.

Thanks.

well..that IS inline CSS ;) ..but to set it in style.css requires some more modifications to both index.template.php and style.css.

I will make these changes first.
Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo (SMF v1.0.1/v1.0)

Updated.

Now the border and background-color of the inner box of the "news-box" and the "user-box" both have their class set in style.css. So to change background-color in these, just modify "background: #...." under .userbox and/or .newsbox.

Numair, I could not find any better color really....perhaps you could show me what you think looks better...? In any case you should be able to change it yourself too..by looking up the items as described above.

Look in "admin" section, on the left is a menu that says "current theme settings".

Click on that and you will see a screen with options, one of them being a textbox called "topbar". In there you can write your own html code, and it will be displayed.

Note that if you don't want to show anything anymore, be sure to erase all text in that "topbar" textbox. It will detect that it is empty.

The language files you got yourself, buttons in the style of apollo is to complement the language files.

Like this:

Themes/
   apollo/
       languages/ ....swedish,english etc. - php files.
       images/
         english/ ....english buttons for apollo - just gif files
         swedish/ ...swedish buttons for apollo - just gif-files

The buttons will appear when you select swedish as your language...the script then starts to fetch the buttons from the swedish folder instead of the english.

The Settings... file contains just the text that is shown when you select themes in your profile. You could just copy the Settings.english.php over to Settings.swedish.php and even translate the english texts..but there is no need really.

But, as far as I can see, the translation to Swedish has been done via Norwegian or Danish... There are some misspelling on some buttons...

Det jag hittills har noterat är följande [So far I've noticed these errors]:

HUVUDKNAPPAR [Main buttons]:
1] Knappen "Hjëlp" bör heta "Hjälp" [The help button -> Hjälp]
2] Knappen "Homepage" bör nog heta "Hem" eller "Start" för att bli skapligt bra på svenska [The hompage button -> Hem or Start]

ÄMNESKNAPPAR [Topic buttons]:
1] "Markera som uläst" bör heta "Markera som oläst" [Mark as unread -> Markera som oläst]
2] "Skikka ämne" bör heta "Skicka ämne" [Send topic -> Skicka ämne]

I have installed this theme and when I call up the Swedish language myforum.com/index.php?language=swedish I get a very large message on the bottom saying that I am using an illegal version of smf because the template does not contain a copyright.

How do I fix this?

Thanks

I am not sure why this is. Does it behave like this when you set the language permanent in admin section too?

It should be in "edit server settings" . The language option will "sense" if you have uploaded more language files.

Post by: disciple on June 14, 2005, 07:00:15 PM
Thank you!

Maybe I don't have it uploaded correctly. It does not "sense" any other language files. It only gives me the option of English. I placed the settings.swedish.php file in the apollo language directory and the swedish images in the images directory in its own folder. Is that the correct way to do it?
Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo (SMF v1.0.1/v1.0)

I would put those in themes/default/languages instead.

That way it will be visible for ALL themes. I also think "catching" more languages automatically only work there..not in other themes language-folders. If you put any files in those, they will override default ones...but if default does not have one in the first place, I guess it won't work.
Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo (SMF v1.0.1/v1.0)

OK I am just not quite grasping this for some reason.

I have installed the apollo theme via the theme manager with no problem. The "language" files I downloaded for this theme are really just the buttons in each specific language.

Question 1
Where do the specific language graphics go? In the apollo images directory or the default images directory.

Question 2
The only php file I find for the languages is the Settings.language.php file. Where does this file go?

Question 3
Are there any other files I need and if so where do I find them?

Question 4
So far everything else has been easy to install via some kind of installer, is there no way to install languages easily as well?

Thanks for you help.

Rick

ah..I misunderstood you, I thought you were installing ALL the swedish language files. They should go in themes/default/languages. There are meny of them, and they can be downloaded in the download section on this site.

so..

1. themes/apollo/images/swedish (create one if it isn't there)
2. themes/apollo/languages (create one if it isn't there)
3. as mentioned...probably ALL the other xxx.swedish.php files...put them in themes/default/languages (this folder should already be there)
4. No, not as I know of I am afraid.

However, how i can modify the template to see non-bold topic titles in the main screen?
I mean, currently apollo template:

Open BoardIndex.template.php and find this code:

                                if (!empty($board['last_post']['id']))
                                        echo ' <a href="', $board['last_post']['href'], '">
                       <img border="0" vspace="3" hspace="5" alt="last post" src="' , $settings['images_url'] , '/post/xx.gif" align="left" /></a> ', $board['last_post']['time'], '<br />
                       <b>', $board['last_post']['link'], '</b> ', $txt[525], '
                       ', $board['last_post']['member']['link'];

Just remove the <b> and </b> around ', $board['last_post']['link'], ' there and the subjects will be in normal weight. :)

Hi Bloc,
some users suggested they are missing the "previous/next post" links to the bottom of the post (like in the classic theme).
Currently Apollo display "previous/next" on top only:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mbradio.it%2Fimmagini%2Fprecedentesuccessivo.jpg&hash=92f06312b2e710ff2c54446ff1e733c00f07368a)

Is this a change i can do by myself or should you think about these request on future versions?

Thank you  :)

Maybe you can help on this.  How exactly do I get the arcade and shop to appear and work with your theme.  I have edited some code in the original index.template.php and it made the link appear however the actual link does not go to the shop and I do not have the shop in my admin.  Is it possible for you to do the shop and arcade modification with your theme and post them?  I'm not sure if you have seen my other few posts about this topic, but I just can't seem to get this to work, and you seem very knowledgable with these kinds of things and I am new to all of this.  I'd be so greatly appreciative.  PM me if you can and need info.  I am pretty desperate!
Title: Re: [Theme] Apollo (SMF v1.0-1.0.5 / SMF v1.1beta3)
Post by: bloc on July 17, 2005, 03:51:31 PM
Sure. First you need to put in the buttons and their paths..open index.template.php and add these codes between the existing buttons there:
for the arcade..assumes button is called games.gif
       // arcade?
                        echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=arcade"><img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/games.gif" alt="' . "Arcade" . '" style="margin:  2px 0;" border="0" /></a></td>';

then the shop....assuming button is called shop.gif
    //Shop MOD
    echo '<a href="'.$scripturl.'?action=shop">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="'.$settings['images_url'].'/'.$context['user']['language'].'/shop.gif" alt="'.$txt['shop'].'"  style="margin: 2px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt['shop']), '</a>'.$context['menu_separator'];

Then open up Display.template.php of Apollo and find this code:
                        // Show how many posts they have made.
                        echo '
                                                                ', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '<br />
                                                                <br />';

And add this code on the next line (for the arcade AND the shop):
                         if(@is_array($context['arcade']['champions'][ $message['member']['id'] ])){
                            foreach($context['arcade']['champions'][ $message['member']['id'] ] as $tmp){
                                //print_r($tmp);
                                if($tmp['thumbnail'] != ''){
                                     echo '
                                                                <img src="', $tmp['thumbnail'], '" alt="" width="20">',$tmp['name'],' ', $txt['arcade_136'],'<br />';
                                }
                                else
                                    echo '
                                                                ', $tmp['name'], ' ', $txt['arcade_136'],'<br />';
                            }
                        }

            //BEGIN Shop MOD 0.2 Code
                        echo '
                                                                ', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '<br />
                                                                ';

            //I couldn't find where all these $message['member'][whatever] variables
            //are set, so I just send an extra database query to get the member's
            //money. Can someone tell me where (file and line) the $message variables
            //are set?
            global $ID_MEMBER, $db_prefix;

            $result_money = db_query("SELECT money
                                      FROM {$db_prefix}members
                                      WHERE ID_MEMBER = {$message['member']['id']}
                                      LIMIT 1", __FILE__, __LINE__);
            $row_money = mysql_fetch_array($result_money, MYSQL_ASSOC);

            echo $modSettings['shopCurrencyPrefix'].$row_money['money'].$modSettings['shopCurrencySuffix']."<br><br>";
            //END SHOP MOD

            //BEGIN SMFShop MOD 1.1 (Build 4) CODE
            echo "<a href='$scripturl?action=shop;do=invother2;membertype=id;member={$message['member']['id']}'>View Inventory</a><br>";
            //END SMFShop MOD 1.1 code

This should be it....

There's something wrong with the coding for the top bar.  Every time I try to change it, the theme changes back to the default skin without changing a thing.  Is there another function I need to change, or is that "SMF just installed" thing gonna stay there.

Most likely you are using the wrong version of the theme.

The "apollo" version is for SMF 1.0.5 ONLY, while the "apollo11" is for SMF 1.1beta3. They are exactly the same in terms of features, but lot of the code in the "11" version is not compatible with SMF 1.0.5 - and will create the kind of errors you are describing.

Check if you have the right version - and if wrong simply upload and overwrite the files.

Bloc, this template is amazing! We're using it for our sole template on our site.  However, I'm having a little issue with the display.  Two gray bars are appearing on each side of the page when the page opens.  This normally wouldn't be a huge deal since I run the forums wrapped in the mambo template, but it is also effecting the mambo template.  I am running Apollo11 with 1.1beta3.  You can see examples of the undesired gray bars on the sides here:

http://www.texxors.com/forums

and here:

http://www.texxors.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=49

(notice how the blue line at the top doesn't go all the way across)

and can see how the template is supposed to look here:

Thanks for any help.

Go into admin / current theme settings and find either "topbar" , where you can insert html code for the logo (it will appear above the theme) or "User picture/logo" , where you can supply a path to a picture. That will appear to the right of the userinfo, in the blue box there.

I would think you need to look in style.css for Apollo theme and remove any margin: or padding: from the "body" tag. Mambo probably has its own, but the minute SMF is loaded the Apollo theme redefines it.

In index.template.php look for "news", and you should find the bit.

        echo '
        <table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0"><tr>
            <td id="bodyarea" style="background: white; padding-left: 15px; padding-right: 15px; padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom. 10px;">';
}

function template_main_below()
{
        global $context, $settings, $options, $scripturl, $txt;

        echo '</td>
[b] ';
if (function_exists('smfshout'))
  smfshout();
echo '[/b]
        </tr></table>';

but it appears like that: :(

Can you please help me?

theme looks great (as does the majority of your work), but will you be adding a Greek language version?

I would need translations..my greek is not so good(in fact non-existant :) ).

There is a button-generator though - at http://www.tinyportal.net/button-generator/apollo.php - but would need the strings really.

Great Theme!

I'm new to SMF (normally I use vB but the per forum license fees are killing me!) and am curious what I could change to completely eliminate the "News" box from appearing on the site and instead replace it with Adsense, YPN or other code?

Atlas rules. make an atlas theme. Minerva sounds fit for a green theme.

and you havent made a green theme yet, have you? (cept neptune, but it's like..blue-green)

Themis is kind of ...green...well, greygreenish anyway.

As you can tell..always had a flair for greek/roman god names. ;D

it's a really cool idea..because coming up with theme names can be difficult. You already have a huge list prepared for you, and best of all, they all sound cool! (except for Diana. THat would be a bonk theme name)

That could take some time.. ;) ...but seriously, its the look that need be thought up first. Then the task of adjusting the code to show it like you want. There is no other way than starting with small changes and try to understand how it "works". You don't need to learn all the php stuff, but a few things is essential for you to change the html parts of it. (Which is what you probably will want to change most).

In html you just write <table><tr> etc. in php you need "echo" it out. So <div>hello</div>  would be in phpecho '<div>hello</div>';

Like the theme , but there are some irritating mistakes in the dutch buttons..

koppel bericht an kalender , has to be : koppel bericht aan kalender

verwidjer geselecteerde, has to be, verwijder geselecteerde

alles ungelzen, has to be, alles ongelezen

And the buttons alles ongelezen & verwijder are on the wrong spot, so the has to be renamed.

That's what is see for now..

Could you change this?

I've been using this theme for quite a while now, and like it very much.

Couple of small glitches in the Dutch translation:
- there is no im_reply.gif
- the delete.gif should be translated as 'Verwijderen' instead of 'Alles Ungelzen'
- Also markunread.gif is not correct. Translation is now 'Reageer' and should be 'Markeer als ongelezen'. The little picture on the button doesn't work either.

Hi Bloc and I love your theme... :D

But have a small drama. :'(

When a guest browses the forum the info bar at the bottom wont display the center image.
the left and right display with a blank bit in the middle.
As soon as a person logs in, the bar displays properly with the new posts icons and the mark as read icon.

Now I'm using SMF in Mambo and im not sure if this is being caused by mambo or it s a SMF issue.

Mambo - 4.5.3h
SMF - 1.0.6

If you have any ideas, any help would be appreciated

Post by: harpo_74 on March 03, 2006, 04:10:36 AM
Hi again,

Yes it was present in both 1.05 and 1.1rc2.
However I ended up dropping the entire mambo site and reinstalling it.
I'm currently using the wrapper in mambo to bring the forums inside the cms.
There was a mod from Mambo exchange that i was using to integrate the smf and mambo systems together.
but for some reason the new smf refuses to install the mod stating permissions to folders denied.
Am using IIS 6.0 to run this site of a MS SBS 2003 server.
It doesn't suffer the problems with the missing bar atm but i fear that once i fix the permissions problem and integrate the two together again, so i only have one user DB, the problem will reoccur.

I know this is stretching the friendship a bit, as mambo and the mod aren't really your problem to support, but it only seems to happen with this theme and i love it so much. The weird thing was that once a user logged in the bar displayed properly.

Once again, any help appreciated,

Have you tried other themes for reference? Like Helios? I think it might have something to do with the theme settings..but it could aslo be a flaw just in Apollo theme.

Haven't tried other third party themes.
but had no issue with the standard built in themes.

Also if you load SMF outside of Mambo it works correctly.

Can't recreate the issue untill i get this permissions issue sorted.

lol. If its not one thing, its somethng else....

I wrote here because the creator of the Mercury-Theme linked this topic.

- For buttonsets in different languages, see this thread - http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=13487.0
since it uses the same buttons as the Apollo theme.
