Firstly, unless you get something in writing from your members, you don't have the copyright on their posts. You definitely don't have the copyright on SMF itself, because you're not the Simple Machines organisation.

But if you assert you have copyright on 'the software on your site', then me helping you fix it could actually violate copyright law in helping you since I would have to do things on a piece of code I wasn't legally allowed to modify.

But I will answer your first question, why does it stop at 16777215? Because that's a limit of SMF. Fixing it requires masses of work and I'm not able to work on your copyrighted work, obviously, I'm only able to work on SMF's copyrighted work which is licensed to me and you.

Just needs the relevant field changing from MEDIUMINT unsigned to INT unsigned. The OP has reached the limit for unsigned values in a MEDIUMINT field

Sure, once you've placed back the SMF copyright notice. We're not going to provide support to you until you do. That's what Illori has said, as have many others.

I can take a look as to why we can't see it, if you attach your theme's index.template.php.

No, it needs a variety of changes beyond that, not just that, but also the fact that you're actively encouraging people who flout the SMF licence requirements and potentially code changes for a few of them as well.

Title: Re: 16777215 members cant register new member

I *do* see a copyright for Simple Portal, I *do not* see a copyright for SMF itself. They are two separate notices, and both of them have to exist.

You guys are wasting your breath.

This contretemps has been going on for years with this member, who refuses to acknowledge the effort provided [for free] by the SMF collective.

ummmm....
on that site.... rhemuthcastle.com
Total Members: 332

on your OTHER site - thisglobe.com
Total Members: 4773119

I might add....   the thisglobe site is horribly slashed and tacked together as far as coding goes
and it looks like you removed the copyright as we said -- but forgot bits, leaving closing tags in palce after removing the opening tags.

eesh...    really, dude...  get a clue.  Either put the copyright back (AND LEAVE IT THERE) or stop asking for support.

we have offered you assistance MANY times in putting the copyright back. you just need to provide us with your index.template.php file and we will fix it. you have never provided the file so we cannot fix it for you.

if you can provide it we can assist you further.

Honestly, that's not our problem. If you can close the website, you have access to the files, therefore you have the ability to solve this.

Your english skills seem to be very limited. Is there any other language you speak? You could try the support board of that language.

So you say it is there, but it isn't there?

Do you understand that everybody here is volunteering their help?
Do you also understand that we will only help you on the condition that you put the SMF copyright footer back in your forum?
If you do, restoring the copyright footer should be your top priority.

Do you have problems with your top priority?
Title: Re: 16777215 members cant register new member
Post by: Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen on December 03, 2019, 03:50:49 PM
To summarize

- The OP has a "problem", from a limitation in SMF that normally pretty much no one would ever hit...
- The problem could probably be circumvented, but requires (among other things) access to edit the files
- We require the SMF copyright notice to be reinstated before we help at all
- The OP says they have no access to the files anymore
- No access to the files means we are unable to help even if we wanted to

-> This is going nowhere, and I am almost ready to just lock this topic.

I wonder if this person does this same thing in other aspects of their life.

Car not start, come fix.
Does it have gas in the tank?
I put air in tires.
But does it have gas?
tires are full.
What happens when you turn the key?
My seats are leather.
That's great, now what happens when you turn the key?
It not start. you need fix
I will as soon as you give me some info.
I did, tires full and leather seats.
I need some actual info to troubleshoot your problem.
car is pink.
Sigh.

I was expecting that they'd buy a car, take off the manufacturer's symbols and take it back to the dealer when there was a problem, and be surprised that the dealer won't help them until they put the car logo back.

Wasn't this the forum that was entirely fake?  Fake members, fake posts, fake stats.  It's probably the fake stats that are causing the problem.  Sometimes you get what you deserve.

please attach your index.template.php file to your next post. putting it in the post does not let us see it as clearly as if it is attached. also this would allow us to modify it and send it back to you.

Thanks! Maybe this is the misunderstanding: The complaints of the forum staff where not about the copyright *headers* in the source *code*, but instead about the copyright *footer* visible in the *browser*.

For some reason, the code (theme_copyright()) is there, but doesn't seem to work (or SimplePortal changed it?).
So that needs to be restored, so that it appears together with the portal copyright footer.

I think then we would need the OP to attach their Sources/Subs.php file so we can look into this further.

Actually, OP should attach his actual index.template.php, comparing what that code would generate for the copyright notice and what is actually generated by his site, they don't match.

The div classes and id's are different, and the posted code uses one div surrounding the copyright code, while the displayed code from his site uses two.

That indicates to me rather easily that it is in fact not his index.template.php

I've been using SMF with Simple Portal installed for three communities (total of six forums and ten themes currently running SMF 2.0.15 and Simple Portal 2.3.6 or 2.3.7) for many years and have never seen a situation where either the SMF or Simple Portal copyright notices were removed or not being displayed.

Thanks for clarifying! Since I've never used it, I was only speculating about that. (I hope that was clear.)

As Gary said, the code might not be what the actual site is using, so everything I said is moot anyway. Apparently comesee doesn't want our help.

The OP has already used deflective techniques (aka, "lies") to divert attention from his real site (by supplying false URLs etc). I cannot believe he's still receiving supportive responses.
