Forum without categories

I do not need category. I would like boards at the the Index root and collapsible. Is that possible or do we need a MOD?

Alternatively, can we post in a category? It does not seem so.

why dont you create 1 category and name it "Forums" or your site name.. then it wont look like a category...

Hi, This is what I did

But there are two drawbacks :

1. useless category appears in the bread crumb (would be great to have a tickbox to remove a category from the tree)
2. I can not collapse boards (this is what I would need) and I do not want to create four categories with only one bard each.

You could edit out the portion of the BoardIndex.template.php of your theme that displays the category header.

I'm thinking you may change the default workings of SMF to point to MessageIndex.template.php of a single category and not to the normal BoardIndex.template.php file.

In 2.x, you can also tell SMF to not even include categories on the board index. Just edit Sources/BoardIndex.php and change 'include_categories' => true to 'include_categories' => false

Thanks. What is the normal effect of this feature?

In my case it did not remove the category from the bread crumb.

Hi sorry about bumping such an old topic, I am about to download and install SMF 2 so that I may try this method outlined in this post and I just wanted to try and confirm what this is supposed to do.

As I understand it this is supposed to remove any categories from your board index and instead allow threads to show at the board index, is this correct?

no.... this edit qill just remove the "category" from display. The forum index (aka boardindex.template.php) will still display each BOARD and not each message.
