This is a little project I've slowly been working on for a year or so.

The (original) concept of Bolt.v2 was to provide an alternative to the default SMF template, which provides a semantic XHTML mark-up, a table-less layout, with everything being controlled by CSS to allow for complete customisation beyond just changing images and colours. Through this concept, it has also been designed to load extremely fast, and is currently 99.9% cross- browser compatible (OP, IE, FX, CH).

One complication is, however, that in order for this to be successful, it will be required that all of the templates and sub-template be recoded! This is something I plan on completing once SMF 2.0 has goen gold, as to make sure it is up to date with all features and format. For the time being, I'm working on ironing out the CSS and general appearance of the theme.

You can check out a live preview here.

I'm looking for general feedback, as well as any suggestions to the coding, layout, etc.

Thanks

Its an excellent idea and I am working on something similar. It does require re-coding templates too, but can work if  its kept constant enough for mods to pick up on.

But looking at your source code there are an awful lot of divs there. I counted *12* nested divs just for the header upshrink area! Thats not optimal, and certainly not any better than using nested tables IMHO.

If you are looking to allow curved corners with all these nested divs, try checking out PhpBB3's way of doing it, they use spans and lists mostly, to allow curves. I suspect you may already have studied them a bit, judging from the rather similar look on your theme. ;)

That's coming along nicely. Very clean look. :)

The curves give a very smooth feel to the whole layout and the colors are simple enough to attract anyone's attention.  The forum colors are especially enticing to the eyes, especially the way everything is arranged.
