QuoteYou cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

How to fix this?
I remember something like chmode command but dont know how to use it...

Check the File Permissions (Admin -> Packages -> File Permissions) and make sure everything is correct.

Please check out:
How do I chmod? / what is chmod?

Make sure the /Packages directory and everything in it is chmodded to 777, or, if after setting that, you check he folder and notice that it isn't actually at 777, then try 755.
Make also a /temp subdirectory inside /Packages, also 777 (or 755 if the first is not set).
Then try again.

Hmm...it wont change..

I put chmod value 777 and after i press "Make changes" it turns back to 0775

775 should be good enough. (clearly your host doesn't let you set 777)
Is the whole /Packages folder 775 ? Including a subdirectory /temp in it?

Whole forum is...but i still get this message:
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

Norv

Is there a subdirectory /temp inside /Packages? If not, please make one.

Is there any way via ftp to see chmod?

Cause i rly dont know witch file has what permission..

I created folder "temp" yesterday and set premission to 777 today i woke up and check temp folder wasn`t there...-.-

Now i created it again and set premissions to 775 and now i am checking if it works...

Well i managed to uninstall one of the mods that i couldn`t uninstall yesterday. But still i cant install my portal...:(

Norv

Well, any FTP client should have a way to show permissions. With some, you can do so by right clicking the file, it should be something related to permission in the menu then. Or else in a view menu perhaps.
However, the screenshot you show in a previous message is also good enough to see permissions (it says there "chmod:755").

If you managed to uninstall, then it should work I think. Please make sure that:
- the folder /Packages has 775 or at least 755, they're good,
- and there is a /temp folder inside it, also 775 or 755. Then try to install.

As you can see on the picture i created "temp" folder and changed its premissions.

On next picture im testing connection for installing the mod...

And error shows -.-

And the weirdest thing is that temp folder is gone...O.O

Aaahhh...help :DD

Norv

It seems SMF deleted the /temp folder, so the folder was writable. It's okay that it deleted it, I think, that's why it's a "temp" (temporary) folder after all, it can be deleted at the end of the procedure it was used for.
What is not okay is that it doesn't seem to have finished the job before doing so.

Please check the message in the "FTP Information Required": it says at the end of it that message "to view a list of the affected files please click here". Can you please tell, what does it say if you do?

/home/vol2/byethost12.com/

byethost is my way old hosting -.- ...how do i change this to my working hosting?

JimM

You might want to download repair_settings.php.  What is repair_settings.php?  It should fix your issue.  Make sure all the paths are correct and click save.

Additionally you can install this mod to keep the "temp" folder from being deleted.

:( :-\

Norv

Those /sp and /admin folders are not part of SMF. What is inside them? Please open /Themes/classic/images/sp and /Themes/classic/images/admin and make a screenshot with each.

Also, please download the tool here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=313201.0 and run it conforming to the instructions.
