Interesting, what is the trick in this ? How will it help our forums ?

Arantor

As per the request linked, the forum user in question was the subject of scraping; i.e. someone else downloading and republishing content. By including it in the body of the post, it will be caught by the scrapers and then subsequently added during later reposting (until they figure it out and amend it)

But that was the request, so I wrote it.

Nice Mod. Should also work for driving a bit of new traffic too.

Great mod.
But this mod should edit the display.template because linck back showed message overline. But i need this link in to message footer or signature below.
http://turkce.rockayseri.net/ozturk/

And if you interested, we need pingback plugin too (:

Turkish Translation

$txt['linkback'] = 'Geri İzleme';
$txt['linkbackStyle'] = 'Geri İzleme stili';
$txt['linkbackStyle_post'] = 'Her ileti için ayrı geri izleme ';
$txt['linkbackStyle_topic'] = 'Sadece konu için geri izleme';
So Long

Arantor

Thanks for the translation :)

The original request for mod didn't want it in the footer or elsewhere, but specifically as part of the message post so it would be snagged by content gatherers.

I can look at adding the option in future versions however I doubt I'd actually put it in the display template. I'd be inclined to put it in the display handler - so it instantly works across all themes (including future themes you may install)

Users will need to know that they have to do an edit to their theme's. If not so, user can't touch theme files and can't customize his own theme. I know your Page Dropdown mods, and she is rock. But linkback button everytime included the theme. You should look at the vbulletin or IPB. If you think this is this your way, i understand that but i really like this mod and i really want to move on signature below. :)

Hmm, actually thinking about it, it may need to be a template edit.

I'll take a look into it once I've cleared some other stuff off my schedule.

It's not supposed to show the backlinks from other sites. Never was.

It is designed to put a link back to the post at the end of every post, nothing more, both as per the description and as per the original request.

SAFAD

ah ok
so
if you can please make a backlink mod
i really don't have any idea how to make it
maybe you have ?
thx

Aside from the fact that this would require the forum being upgraded to having a XML-RPC library embedded in it, and the fact that it would likely seriously slow down your forum it would be doable. Plus I've yet to encounter another site that would send pingbacks to a forum, at least not in a way that would be meaningful.

It's not one I'm interested in doing at this time however.

How does an admin determine if they've been the target of scrapers?

Also, am wondering if it will look a bit distracting to normal users who are browsing a forum to see this linkback beneath every post. If you hid the link via CSS, will the scrapers still pick it up?

Usually if they find their content on other sites without permission.

As for cloaking, I wouldn't suggest it because Google has been known to penalise for that before now.

Hi,
great.
Can a board linkback be choosen?

Arantor

No, it links back to the post only.

Thanks.
In a future version?

Arantor

I suppose you could link back to the board if you wanted, despite the fact it's already in the link tree. This is really aimed at preventing content scraping without attribution.

The only thing I'd be wary of is duplicate linkbacks penalising you from Google et al.

jossanaijr

Okay,
my problem is that many forum users did not understand how to go back to board...
