I am posting this because I can't find a thread with a similar situation.

My old set up was a 2.0 Beta 3 data base and 2.0 Beta 3.1 board. I couldn't get it to upgrade to the lastest, so I tried upgrading to 2.0 Beta 3.4 No go.

Finally, after many failed attempts to upgrade (I would get this lingering white screen, I deleted the forum and loaded the full package of 2.0 RC1.2.

I wasn't able to log in, so I went BACK in the browser and started over, creating a new administrater ID, which worked fine. I reset the passwork to my usual ID, and logged out of the new one. I couldn't log in to either. Still can't members are getting the same problem.

All the original content seems to be there:

I need help. $20.00 bill goes out to whomever gets me through this!!!

Also, you can go to a board and look at the threads, but clicking on a thread leads you here:

Not sure if it a symptom of the same problem or not. I backed up before starting to tweak the board. The backup is on my flash drive, but I have no idea what to do with it.

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0 RC1.2, while your database is at version 2.0 Beta 3 Public. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

This is what I get...how do I upgrade the database? Will that fix this?

Norv

Please try uploading in your SMF directory the files upgrade.php and upgrade .sql files from the large upgrade package to SMF 2.0 RC1.2, and run upgrade.php from your browser. It should upgrade your database properly to SMF 2.0 RC1.2.

Make sure you do have a database backup first.

Would running the large upgrade be a help, or cause problems? I have run out of time to work on this for long spells.

Norv

Please upload all the files with "upgrade" in their name from the large upgrade package, available as soon as you unzip.

Running the upgrade is necessary, since as I understand from your posts, it didn't run on your database (successfully) since a beta version.

Please make sure you make a full database backup before doing so.

I went through the process....nothing has changed. What next?

Can you please explain what happened, did the upgrade run fully?

On another note, please consider not double-posting, but edit your previous post as long as there was no reply to it yet.

OK on the double posting---wasn't sure if we were cross posting and maybe you would see the mod.

I went through the steps, pretty much the same as when I tried to do the upgrade, prior to delting the original file.

It removed some of my mods, and at the end it said something akin to :that wasn't so hard was it?"

Norv

Please, upload the attached file to your SMF folder, and run it too, from your browser. It shouldn't say anything, just show you a white page.
But after running it, you should not have anymore errors about 'file_hash'.

That fixed that part of it....

I still get this when I try to log in.

Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

Yes. I even looked for where to click to get my password emailed...couldn't find it. I could earlier, but the email never came.

Norv

Please log in phpMyadmin, select your forum's database on the left, and in a SQL tab, run:

SELECT url, message, error_type, file, line FROM smf_log_errors ORDER BY log_time DESC LIMIT 50

(replace "smf_" with yor own database prefix).

OK. gonna do it, but I think it inadvertantly got put into mysql when I first did this 18 months ago...can that become a different problem for me?

OK, this is where my ignorance shies through....where do I find all of that?

I am using Yahoo, btw.

Can I give you the reigns, and let you know it out right quick? I have that tip ready!

Norv

Please check out: What is phpMyAdmin?
It probably is installed on your host, or if not, then some similar web database administration tool. Check in your host's cpanel.

Please make sure you make a database backup before using it, though. You might find a link to making backups also in your host's cpanel, or, after getting on phpMyAdmin page, use "Import" tab to take a full backup and save it in a file on your computer.

EDIT: please send me in PM the details of your cpanel, if you want, I'll take a look to see what I can do.
The work for money is usually discussed in the Help Wanted (not for support) board.
You might want to try that in case I can't find the problem myself in the time I have.

that is in my Yahoo file manager, just can't figure out what I am going. Can you go into it, and fix the problem? I'll be grateful, and relieved!!!
