Mr. Pirate

The top one is wrapped with code tags and the bottom one is just a link, how do i make it so the one in code tags looks like the one below it so when a guest enters my forum he will see something like the bottom one and when he registers he will see a link wrapped with code tags??

I got the code for the top one from here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=335849.msg2255769#msg2255769

I got the code for the bottom one from here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=88363.msg1740960#msg1740960

I hope i gave you enough information for you to help me.

Arantor

Moving to SMF Coding Discussion, where I'll take another look at my own code.

EDIT: Well, it's a bit more complicated to do that since [code] is designed for posting code, not posting links.

If this is for a warez site, as I posted in the other thread I personally will not advise on it.

Mr. Pirate

ok, hope you can solve this problem  :)

no its not a warez website i just want this so i get more registered members. Is it possible to do this?
because the bottom one kinda looks cooler

Arantor

So are you planning to edit the text that it displays on code blocks, or do your members use code tags for links too?

Mr. Pirate

well ya members are going to use code tags too so then I'm just not the only one using them lol

Arantor

What I'm getting at is do they use code tags for code, or is it purely for links? (I don't ever understand why people do use it for anything other than code, though it's popular on warez sites for links, for reasons I do understand)

Mr. Pirate

well not just links anything that the user want hidden from the guest like a cheat code for a game or something

Arantor

So presumably the message does need to be changed too, just trying to confirm that.

Mr. Pirate

what do you mean?
I want the message in the code tags to look like the bottom one in the picture but when they register they can see whats in the code tag.
basically i just want the top to look like the bottom im going to change the message to say "[Only registerd user can see this, register or login to view this]" the other one was just a default from where i got it.

Arantor

Both say "Only registered users can see links", so that needs to change, which is what I was getting at.

I need to sit down and review the code of both my quick edit for code tags as well as vbgamer45's registered links mod to see how best to achieve this. Shouldn't be a huge edit though.

Mr. Pirate

ok, and yeah im going to change that.

They code it because it makes users copy and paste the links, and therefore the site hosting the warez (commonly rapidshare) cant find what site referred them to that download, meaning they cant be prosecuted for linking to warez, or something along those lines.

i got that part but i dont use it for links i use it for codes as well.
Im waiting for Arantor to see if he could make that code.

Arantor

Well, I can't look at this for a couple of days since I'm not at home until Tuesday. In any case please do not bump for an update within 24 hours, I will advise with a solution as and when I find one.

Mr. Pirate

ok, i'll wait a couple days.

Mr. Pirate

I waited like 4 days

What happened, unfortunately is that I got flooded with real life and other stuff. I would note that I did say 'as and when' I had a solution, please remember that I'm a volunteer here.

I'm also trying to figure out if you actually want it to display the code tag when they're logged in, or not.
