Whenever I try to install a package I get this error:

Quote

An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

Except my packages directory/installed.list have both been CHModded 777?

kat

Create a directory, inside Packages, named "temp" and CHMOD that to the same. :)

That ought to sort it!

None of the mods are working though?

Make sure all files and folders (like theme and sources) are writable as well.

Isn't that a security threat?

Edit: Still not working.Could you do it for me if I gave you info?

xenovanis

There's a difference of opinions about that. I myself never had a problem with that. I suppose it could be on a improperly configured server.

You seem to have a problem with filepermissions though. SMF is trying to modify the files, but cannot access it. No proper errormessage is returned though. It's a weird thing that happens on some servers.

You should be able to easily switch filepermissions in Admin -> Packages -> Options -> Cleanup Permissions. So, if you don't feel safe, switch for installing a mod and then switch back.

I'll try to be as specific as possible:

When I try to install a mod the description is that of another mod. Example the description for a Hide Tag may be the description of Advance Reputation system. All folders are 777 except the forum root. After installing a mod I have no way of configuring it. It does not show options in the Admin Panel. If I install a mod it has no errors appear but it does not work.

Oloty, very sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, on some servers it's a pain to get the packagemanager to work. You might want to check in with your host to see if he's able to find a cause for this.
