is it even doable? for example www.mysite.com/forum to like www.mysite.com/community or any other label?

If your talking about just changing the name of the folder SMF resides in then yes it can be done. Change the name of the folder and then upload and run repair_settings.php to change all the settings to the new name of the folder.

What is repair_settings.php?

I have my Smf installation in the public_html and i dont have problems with it, its actually for a mod -I installed a mod and whenever i switch to that page it shows the mod's folder on the url which looks kinda like an installation folder than a site?
how do i go about renaming the folder? thank you in advance for the help

ok i tried plainly rewriting the folder to 777 just so that i can change the name then when i click the link to the mod its says the path to the mod is not writable?

Bigguy

If you have cpanel, go into it and then to the file manager. Find the file you want to rename and highlight it. Above that you will see a row of commands. One of them will be rename. Click on it and enter a new name for the folder. Is this what you are meaning. ???

eyo

yeah renaming it seems to cause an error in the path, when i rename the folder the mod was installed in and click the button for it theres a big red message saying that "public_html/modname is not writable"

Bigguy

you will have to change permissions on modname then so it is writable. If they do not change then you may have to get your host to re-own the file/folder for you. Can you uninstall the mod and then rename the folder and re-install it. ???

eyo

im talking to my host right now, will let you know if it works, so far the folders and paths in the mod have been working since i changed it, but still the url looks like the old folder name

eh i think ill try uninstalling then reinstalling this and renaming the folders after this, looks like getting the host involved increases the compexity of the situation :(

Bigguy

Post back if you need something. It may not be me though answering as it's getting late but someone will be around to help if ya need it. ;)

eyo

ok thanks. now i cant login to cpanel anymore. let the problems begin! lol
