Hmm.. I have an idea but I want/need to clarify some things.

What is the reason you have not updated your forum software? Too many personal edits to files?
Consider that it may be an error on your part for editing a file incorrectly or ignoring flagged installation errors.
Imo - uninstall & delete all mods + download recent versions of what you want re-installed (some will use hooks now).
Use the full upgrade package to update your forum & then install your mods anew while properly parsing any flagged installation errors.
For now, please do not install SimpleSEF if you opt for this procedure.

This should eliminate the possibility of an incorrect edit to ie. some mysql query.

I have had over $3000 worth of custom modfications done, some of them on other mods. I will need their help to reinstall and redo them.

That's not counting over a year of personal edits, hundreds of individual instances of this. Would take me months to duplicate all of it.

Both you & the people you paid to do custom edits should have thought that you would need to upgrade in the future or would possibly need to use the upgrade package to fix something gone awry.
They/you could have easily created installation packages or edited your mod's/theme's installation packages to facilitate this action/procedure.
What are the mods installed including versions? What is your server's PHP version (specifically to the decimal)?

I appreciate your help but have already heard the "woulda shoulda coulda" things a million times and can do nothing about that now.

I'm trying to troubleshoot the specific errors I've posted up on here. This thread has been helping me immensely, PLEASE nobody derail this one with another huge thing about how I should upgrade immediately. It's just not possible right now, or I would've done it. This thread is my LIFELINE.

It would only alter 2 columns in the settings table.
simplesef_enable & simplesef_simple 

enabled their value is the integer of 1 (0 for disabled)
phpmyadmin in cpanel will allow you to alter your tables if necessary.

Right, I've been trying to troubleshoot this for weeks. The problem goes back probably to when I first upgraded to rc3 and SEF was reinstalled. I doubt I'd be able to install it again--virtually nothing installs anymore. I'm trying to remove all the mods I don't use now for that reason, to free it up.

I'm at a loss on this one using the info provided. I requested that file because its template was throwing errors with what was quoted (in code) in one of your last posts. The only edits to the file were from the Member Color Link mod (v3.08 ?) which I tested on a local using like versions of it & the SSEF v1.03 mod but I have no problems with it & its file edits for PersonalMessage.php seem fine when I compare files.

Your filtering of error messages could possibly be hiding the true source of this whole mess.
Imo someone willing to spend the time needs FTP & admin access to try to pinpoint the issue.

You need someone willing that knows how to troubleshoot the issue & give them ftp + admin or copy the current content so you use the upgrade package to replace fresh files & edit them anew (properly this time). I believe Arantor already gave you a basic procedure in yet another thread for the latter.
Both things I have already suggested whether you want to hear it or not.

Those particular errors you posted in that other thread & in one post of this thread are from empty values in the pm label array which are fed data in the PersonalMessage.php file but it is useless to patch the file with false values when empty because the source of the problem (whatever it might be) is causing tons of other errors. (pm, post, profile, etc.. etc..)
You need someone to figure out the actual source of the issue by having a good look at things via ftp & admin.
Ignore my words if you wish but eventually that will be the only resolve.

I'm not trying to ignore you, and I assumed that this thread had lost focus and so I started a fresh one.

It's that I don't yet know you very well, also, you seem very knowledgeable but I am very careful whom I give out my site's info to. I'd be happy to let you have a look, I just need to see some references. My site is my life.
