Hello, I am brand new to websites and forums in general.
I installed smf via goaddy a few days ago to my website.
Everything is working great, I have configed everything just the way I like it, but I cannot seem to get a few things working.
1.Themes- Whenever I install a theme (by installing a zip file in the admin panel) and try to apply/preview it, all I see is a white background with html text.

FIXED

2. Smilies- All of the smilies don't work, they show up with as a white piece of paper (the error message saying they couldn't load).

3. Images- Image previews don't work, but if they attach it, I can view/download the file.
FIXED

All help would be greatly appreciated.          MY SITE IS 2006scaper.com [nofollow]
If you go to it and try to post a smily ect. you will get a better idea of the errors. I will be checking back on this thread frequently, or you can post/pm me on my forums and try to help me.
Thanks in advance

Let's start with the themes. Which ones are you trying to install? More specifically, are they for the 2.x version of SMF? I tried this URL on your site which seems to be Salava:
http://www.2006scaper.com/forum/?theme=4
But the CSS isn't there:

I attempted to install that by installing the .zip, I guess that did not work.
Should I try to install it manually? If so, is there a guide or any documentation to help me do that?

My guess is that you tried this already?
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_do_I_install_a_theme
Just did, it didn't work.
Should I manually extract the files into /themes?
Or do you have a better solution?

I wouldn't do manually what should be done automatically. Can you connect to your site's files and see what's in the Themes folder (FTP or File Manager)? I'm thinking the directories are not setup properly to accept new files. You could consider asking for help from GoDaddy too regarding your server's setup.

Inside the themes folder,  there are a bunch of folders with the name of the theme, aswell as a index.php file.

But inside the theme folders, there is another folder named the theme, then inside that folder another folder with the files in it.

Can you drag the subfolder's files up a level? Still makes me wonder how that double folder occurred. :)

Thanks so much. I kinda fixed it.
Check out 2006scaper.com/forum/index.php/?theme=3 [nofollow]
and ?theme=4
As you can see there applied. But they are really bugged, def not good enough to use as main theme.
Is it what I did or just that the themes are outdated?

mashby

Well, I'm wondering if you've installed a 1.1.x theme on your 2.0.2 site. That might explain the abnormalities I'm seeing. :)

Can you point me to a topic on your site with a smiley that's broken?

Your smiley path is pointing to your local machine (127.0.0.1)

Eg, http://127.0.0.1/smf/Smileys/LightB_1.1/smiley.gif

Head over to Admin > Forum > Smileys > Settings and correct the URLs shown near the bottom

chawk

I am not sure what path to change it too.
Please help :D

What paths are showing there?

The BASE Url should be where your smiley sets are held, eg

http://2006scaper.com/forum/Smileys

and the Absolute Path should be how your server sees that set, eg

/home/2006sc/public_html/forum/Smileys

chawk

I tried setting those path, with no luck, does anyone wanna hop on teamviewer and help me.
I don't think it is hard I am just missing something.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shambles

Those were just examples, hence the emboldened eg  8)

You can pick up the Absolute path from Admin > Configuration > Server Settings >  Database & Paths in the field "SMF Directory" and add "/Smileys" to it, to give you the path in your Smileys settings

chawk

I love you.
