Thanks which is the best mod to use please

Also if you go to Admin -> Features and Options -> General

You see meta tags
What does that do and how do you add it

Like this: forum, chat, photos, ext ?

kat

Exactly. If you click the question-mark, beside it, it tells you. :)

MarkS

Sorry trying to do this on my iphone lol
So I should if I put it in there get from this

African cichlid talk - index
To
African cichlid talk - chat, forum, photo, blar, blar

Is that right just have to wait till google picks it up ??

kat

Yep. :) You'll have a lot of competition, though, coz I bet zillions of sites have those same tags.

MarkS

Yep they where examples I with think of what I can put relevant to my forum

kat

MarkS

Not to sure what to put really its a African cichlid keeping forum I put this what do you think please

African Cichlid Forum, Cichlid Chat, Cichlid Help, Cichlid Advice, Cichlid Videos

kat

I think "Cichlid" would probably be enough. As that'll appear all over your site, anyway, I doubt that the meta tags'll improve it, much. If it's on your site and it's accessible to Google, they'll find it.

MarkS

ok thanks maybe im on the wrong tracks here bellow is how it looks if you google african cichlid talk

African Cichlid Talk - Index <----- i want to change index
www.africancichlidtalk.co.uk/Cached
African Cichlid Talk - Index. ... Talk about anything to do the african cichlids. 3 Posts

am i doing the right thing here ?

kat

You're not doing anything wrong. Google found index.php, so it put it on the search. It's there, now. So, you're not gonna get rid of it.

There are some mods that get rid of the index.php bit. But, I'd think it's too late, now.

But, you're there. If people are interested, they'll follow the links and get to you.

Why worry? ;)

MarkS

I'm not worried just thought I could right something there like others do

And so when people google cichlid forum we show at the moment you have to google the full site name for it to show

I'm trying to get it out there but with no look at the moment :(

kat

To get rid of the index thing, it seems you need to edit a language string that ends in "- Index" in index.english.php. (It's in the default theme's "Languages" directory).

$txt['forum_index'] = '%1$s - Index';

So, try changing that to:

$txt['forum_index'] = '%1$s ';

MarkS

So could I do This

$txt['forum_index'] = '%1$s - forum Help Advice';
?

kat

You know... I have no idea. Although, I have a sneaky suspicion that someone'll tell me, in a while. ;)

Why not try it and see what happens?

If something goes "Phut!", you can always change it back. :)
