well, I would not say "it's just one of those things"... because the method that I indicate has been used thousands of time, successfully including a test by me on my test site, just now to confirm)

So - (sorry) either something is screwy with your configuration or you didn't do something correctly - because I can see no other reason that something thise basic in configuration would work for everyone else but not for you.

I tested it as well and it works just fine.
No, I will not offer free downloads to Premium DzinerStuido themes. Please stop asking.

Hi

If you check my Forum on www.royalengineers.com/Forum the Logo I wanted to put on SM is on top of page. Do you think the size of it had anything to do with it not showing, it did cross my mind. I have to admit that SM is more impressive forum software. I'll dick around with it on another domain hosting I have and see if it work on a fresh install.

Cheers

Try just www.royalengineers.info that goes to the index page, forum is last button on top right.

your logo is 700x124
which seems to work just fine.... although it is a little large for the space... (min-height is 65 pixels, which means that your logo is about twice the planned size )in height)  but the height expands to fit anyway, as you can see....

Hi Kindred

Thanks for the time you've taken with this. I'm setting up a hosting on another domain I have and will try that. Might just have been a 'Gremlin' on the first attempt. I must admit I prefer SM to Vanilla, better looking forum. Like I said I'm new to this forum stuff and getting on in years so patience maybe running a bit thin. I'll see how it goes on the other domain.

Cheers

Hi again Kindred

Still needing help.

Well I set up a forum on another hosting you can check it at www.warmdene.com/Warmdene/index.php, the logo installed first time no bother. I also reinstalled SMF on www.royalengineers.info. As you can see no success with the Royal Engineers log. I even tried to get it to load the Sussex map logo as per warmdene.com. Wouldn't load that either. Both hosting are exactly the same type with the same provider. I'm totally stumped why one works as it should and other doesn't. I'm going to leave the Royal Engineers forum on SMF, Vanilla worked OK but I prefer SM.  8) Just hope I can get the logo problem solved.

Cheers

Hi Illori

Sussex.gif is the Logo on www.warmdene.com/Warmdene/Sussex.gif, not on royalengineers.info. The Sussex logo shows up fine when I open the warmdene.com.

http://royalengineers.info/Sussex.gif does not exist.

...but royalengineers.info/sussex.jpg  does!

That would appear to be the problem, you are looking for the wrong filename!

Illori

then they have a linux server where case matters

Sorry!!!!

Was trying to access the wrong file. I've messed about so much these last few days got myself totally confused.

Looks like its working now, Dunno why it didn't work on the first install as I had the right file name then, I only tested it with Sussex this morn and forgot to change the file back.

Anyway, thanks to all who helped. I feel like a complete ass not being able to get it to work myself.

Cheers

Glad you got it working!  :)

Now, before you do anything else, I would upgrade to version 2.0.4, your site appears to be running 2.0.2

;)

Will upgrade soonest. 8)

Hi

Just one final word, if I was putting in the wrong filename in the first installation I made, should I have not got an error from the Configuration page, just a thought.

cheers

Plus I may have tired to 'Over engineer' the location of the URL leading right to the file instead of just leaving it as the root of the web directory of the site. Sigh!!

Kindred

why would it give you an error?  the field accepts ANY input and doesn't validate it...   it assumes that you know what your putting in there. :P

there's no really good way to validate the entry anyway...

Hi Kindred

All 'Good' software gives error codes, ask Bill Gates  ;D Mind you since I changed to Apple many years ago I never now get the Microsoft Blue Screen of Death

Thanks for the help. Think we can now mark this thread as solved. I'd do it if I knew how!!!   ;) ;) ;)

Cheers

Kindred

It's alreayd marked as solved. :P

As for error codes...    it can only give an error is there is some sort of failure or some sort of validations.
Since the field accepts whatever you put in, there is no validation and there is no failure...   so there can be no error code. It's just a text box.

it doesn't "fail" until it puts the contents of that textbox into the template and diaplays (or does not display) the image.... and even that is merely a VISUAL failure, not a code failure.

:)

I do software projects with UX/UI for a living, even outside of SMF...   so I do know what you are trying to suggest (and, in general, I agree) but in this case, it's just not feasible.
