OK, I know I'm going to catch flak for this.. but what the heck.  I want to upgrade to 1.1 but I'm a coward, because I'm afraid that my message board will quit working... don't ask me why.

I tried a few mods in the past which in turned caused my message board to go down, then had to reinstall SMF.  This cause me a lot of headaches getting members to sigh back on after losing the first message board.

What I'm asking, if it would be possible for an experienced SMF person to install the upgrade for me?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Download the smf_1-1-rc1_upgrade package, extract all the files to your computer and upload them to your forum directory, overwriting existing files. Then just point your browser to upgrade.php and follow the instructions. Make sure you check the box next to "create a backup of your databse using the prefix 'backup_{yourprefix}'". That will create a backup of existing tables so if something goes wrong, you can always go back.

Dont forget that when you've completed your upgrade to delete upgrade.php as it is a major security risk.

I'm ready to upload the files to my board.  But the question I have is how do I get to upgrade.php?  The example that I got is http://www.yourdomain.tld/forum/upgrade.php  What in the world is .tld??   Would it be easier to go to my url http://thescvpartisan.org/community/upgrade.php [nofollow]  or is that what they mean in the example.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question(s) again.

HELP.. I just got done uploading all of the files, when I go to run http://thescvpartisan.org/community/upgrade.php [nofollow], I get the following  message.

The upgrader was unable to obtain write access to Settings.php.

If you are using a linux or unix based server, please ensure that the file is chmod'd to 777.
If your server is running Windows, please ensure that the internet guest account has the proper permissions on it.

BTW, I'm on a linux sever using a standard Cpanel.  Where in the world would I find the file chmod'd so I can change it to 777?

I want to thank those that took the time to help upgrade my message board.  It did take sometime to get ALL files uploaded but once that was done, the rest was a piece of cake.   ;D

??? Now on to my question.  What was the benefit of upgrading, I see no differnets between 1.03 and 1.1 RC1?  I was hoping it would install the spell checker, but it didn't, is there something I still need to upload?  Also, could you point me to the right forum where I can check out any mods that will work with the latest addition of SMF.

Again, thank you for your help and patience. 8)

The spellchecker itself is not a SMF feature. If it's installed on your server, SMF uses it. For the differences, take the time and check your adminpanel. There are a lot of changes.
