Check your webspace via FTP or cPanel's File Manager. Make sure the file is there, the path is correct and that proper permissions are set. Ask your host for help if everything fails ;)

Look at your Settings.php file, too. I have a suspicion that it'll be a zero bytes (empty) file.

If that's the case, you should have a file named "Settings_bak.php". Delete Settings.php and rename "Settings_bak.php" to "Settings.php" to "Settings.php".

no, no, no

copy and rename Settings_bak.php to Settings.php. if they do it your way and remove the backup file and this happens again they may be without the backup file.

Illori's right on this one. There's also situations where things in the ACP will not be accessible if Settings_bak.php does not exist.

This is just to try to enlist all possible cases.

My files don't have a _bak in their name but they have a normal file such as Settings.php and another one called Settings.php~ instead of Settings_bak.php

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

Interesting. You should have Settings.php and Settings_bak.php, and not any .php~ files. SMF should be warning you if Settings.php~ or Settings_bak.php~ exist.

Ninja ZX-10RR

Really? Well no it doesn't do that. The screenshot I attached is from different folders and as you can see sometimes I have bak and sometimes i have that odd character .-.

I wasn't talking about any other files. I was talking specifically about Settings.php and Settings_bak.php.

Other files can have .php~ which is created by manual editing with some editors or mod installation.

She is, kinda. But, anyone who doesn't have backups, anyway, has to have a screw loose. :)

Ninja ZX-10RR

Ah ok then, I suppose I have misread the file name because there were a lot of files with that "~" thingy. Good to know then if everything is ok :)
And yep I have a lot of those in order to get a lot of mod to work together with no errors :D they often failed because there were a modified string but nothing serious.
Thanks for your little clarification then :)

The entire Sources folder is missing... SMF won't work without that.

margarett

If you don't have a backup, you should look into a fresh set of files and then restore your MODs/themes...
