Hi Guys,

I'm running SMF 2.0.9 and currently have over 30,000 registered members on my forum.

I have recently opened this to guest access and would like to know the best way to get the topics listed organically on Google? Also how do I get a list of topics to appear on google like it does for other forums? It nornally shows the subject and date for about 4 or so topics!?

Hope you can help here.

Mitch.

1- upgrade to 2.0.11 soon. There are security patches.

2- You can add a sitemap/XML mod - which can be loaded into google webmaster tools

as for google "organically" -- I assume that you mean, just normal google spidering of the site....
If so, then the sitemap will help.
Optimus Brave mod will also help...
but google searches the site just fine even without that stuff.

Thanks for the reply, I've took a look at sitemaps and can see only 50,000 pages are allowed, with over 30,000 members and 1.5m posts there are obviously a lot of pages to be listed. So which would be the best mod to install here?

I have seen before when searching for help with something a forum is isted showing all the topics that match that criteria with dates to the side.....I will try and find an example

This is a good sitemap mod:

I wouldn't worry about *everything* being listed, just your more recent things from this year. Google and other search engines will work their way back on their own. You can also submit board urls to their manual submission link in Webmaster Tools.

Alternatively you could make a page or two that uses SSI to grab your old topics...you could probably get it to grab 100k at a time and submit each one to google. Don't quote me on that though I'm only guessing based on using it to grab 100 topics and links which worked nicely for me (on shared hosting).
