Sorry...couldn't locate any recent posts regarding installing a SMF theme on Godaddy.

Already have a hosting account with Godaddy and in the past have installed SMF on newly purchased domains.  Problem is I can't remember how I did it and need a refresher.

Haven't purchased the domain yet...but looking around Godaddy have located Wordpress install instructions but not SMF.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Not to bring you down, but in the long run be prepared to have trouble with GoDaddy. Not the most SMF friendly host out there.

been with Godaddy for 30 years?
watched the price go up and up and up
have 50 domains there
BUT
do NOT use for SMF -
the tech they use is NOT good for FORUMS
tooooooooooooooooo slow to access the DB
it will work - but SLOW SLOW SLOW access times
and they will blame YOU
I now run my SMF on other hosts
still low cost
but now all access time under 1 sec?
often under .1 sec
we have 60 members and 53000 posts and 5200 topics

I agree that godaddy is an issue...looks like to removed any tutorials related to SMF installation.   Plenty of WordPress help.

Have used goddady for about 10 years now...and have been lucky so far with my one smf forum.

Are there hosts out there that (to keep costs down) limits the user to just one domain?

Thanks

Steve

thanks all....

I see in the SMF download there are the following extensions zip, gz, bz2

Can I assume that the zip file is the one I need?

.zip usually works for most people.

I've created my SMF on Dreamhost recently (using the Unlimited Shared Hosting option).

They also have WordPress plans, email is available, and ways to get VPS if you want to scale later.

Right now you can get this as low as $2.95 for a three-year Starter plan (one website), or $3.95 for a one- or three- year plan.  https://www.dreamhost.com/hosting/shared/

And no, I don't get compensated in any way for this personal observation.

My experience with it has been good.  I'd never stood up a SMF forum, and I was able to get it up and running on my first shot at it. They provide the MySql database and php, and a good file manager. This hosting is much faster than my old "free forum" hosting, with no real issues to complain about.

Hopefully, this helps...I like to give back.  :)

That post really should be made here: Reviews

This isn't any kind of admonishment. Just an FYI for future reference. :)

I appreciate the heads-up, and I'll mind the lines going forward. Thanks for your kindness in letting me know.
