Need to move directory

Since things seem to be irreparably messed up beyond all repair I need to move this old database to a different directory and start a fresh installation in the root directory so my members have a place to post.  I was going to work on things in another directory at my leisure while providing a fresh database for the members.

I did some searching, I can't run this repair_paths.php because the database isn't working properly.

Do I just delete it through php my admin and hope for the best on restoring things through my back up in a new directory and work on it from there?

Move it and then go to:

Admin -> Configuratrion -> Server Settings

Scroll down to the bottom two text boxes and edit the url to encompass the new directory.

Thank you for the reply.  I have it moved over but for some reason I cannot log in.

I tried going to php my admin and changing the password by hand but it still won't let me log in to make these changes.  Any ideas?

are you able to use the "lost password" feature? this will reset your password.
