I have one problem with personal messages. I want to have limit for groups. I set 2 as max personal messages, but the users receive more.

I have been wondering about this too. Which group sets the actual number? will a group with a higher limit or no limit overrule it? or is it the primary group?

It's the primary group as far as I know.

I use the default groups. For ex. I try to set 2 PM to group newbie (with less than 50 posts) and they can receive more than two messages.

I just did some checking and testing (with a couple of regular user test accounts I've got on my test board)...

If you're not in a primary group, it uses the limit for your post-based group instead.
If you are a regular member and are trying to send a message to someone who has met or exceeded their PM limit, it won't get sent.
Admins and anyone with the moderate_forum permission can send PMs to users regardless of whether or not that user has met or exceeded their max PM limit.
Your personal max PM limit has no effect on whether or not you can send messages to other people.

Thank you very much. It works. I was trying to test it with my administrator's account. That's why I was always able to send messages to limited users  :D
