Hello.

I posted the forums to the web and with in "5" minutes i had ads in the guest book forum even with capture turn on and permissions set to register.
Is there anyway to prevent this?

Could I have the permissions set wrong? I'm using the forum through cPanel.

Thank You In Advance

JimM

Please be a bit more specific in what your issue is.  What do you mean you are using the forum through cPanel?

Yes, you probably have the permissions set wrong.  You can turn off guest access or limit guest access as well with the permissions.

Take a look at the online manual.  It has lots of basic information for setting up your forum.

Ok, lets see if i got this straight.

Right now all the boards are set to "Global Permissions".

Now if I set all the boards to "Local Permissions" by clicking on local they will no longer be able to post ads in the forums.

JimM

Set them to Local and uncheck access for Guest and they won't even be able to see the board.

No matter how I set the permissions these ads are posted, and yes I have banned them all by email, name and ip address.

If this isn't resolved I am going to lose an account, one that i've had for years.

I have got to get some help here, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You

Kermit

i dont really think this is a smf problem
if your account has been canceled then its probably a host or server side problem

When I was younger I hated going to weddings. it seemed that all of my aunts and the grandmotherly types used to come up to me, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, 'You're next.' They stopped that crap after I started doing the same thing to them at funerls

i dont really think .............. i'll agree with that 100%

Kill Em All

It is a hosting problem. Sorry you felt this way.

Sorry the account was cancelled nameuser, however if you read back, you provided little or no information for us to go on in our efforts to help.  It's actually quite obvious from your OP that you had no clue how to use the software in the first place.  If you had taken some time to read the documentation, then you would have had a much better chance of being successful using SMF.

Good luck on your future endeavors.  I am removing the topic solved check mark as this topic was not solved.   Instead I will just lock it so searchers won't waste their time reading it. :)
