One of the problems with being an admin for a forum is publicity, and not many would want to advertise for a forum they just have joined. Remember they are only members. They don't want to talk about the forum in public, but they will fill out a single form at the bottom of the forum's main page to recommend the forum to a friend.
I saw through the completed mods at YaBBSE.org and found nothing.

I would want to see this in SMF, either as a mod or as an implemented feature.

This field would be at the bottom of the Infomation area, just above the Copyright field, it should only consist of three fields.
Your username, your e-mail (this should come directly from the profile, and should stand there all the time. The third field is the friend's e-mail address. By clicking Send, a translated file (written in something called Recommend.english.php or in this case, Recommend.norsk.php) and advertise for the forum to this friend, stating that $username would have wanted you to register at the forum.

This I would like to see this implamented. I started making one for YaBB SE but got side track with life. I think this idea will help draw people to user forums so would be a useful tool. I used this on many other forum's before. I think it should be implamented into two areas board index to invite people to the forum and display.php to invite people to view a post.

Two thumbs up from me!

Nice, Nemesis.

Oh, the life, always have to interfere with your own interests :P

But, yeah, this could draw attention to the forum, so that maybe many of the guests only visiting the forum, will register, write a reply to one of the messages, and maybe, be an active member ;D

Seems alright. I tried to mod a perl tell-a-friend script in once and I was the only one that used it.

I don't think it would work well with the mainstream SMF, but probably do better as a mod. In my (little) experience, the "tell-a-friend" little sections on things have always seemed quite tacky.
