I am currently switching to a different hosting server.

I need a few questions answered when I switch my servers.

How do I save all of my stuff that are on the forum, how do I back up the db for the forum. Do I do it through the forum.

Do I make a new forum and then upload the old one to over write the files. The domain is going to be different so will the db user name.

Thanks

Complete backup of both forum (the whole forum dir) and a complete DB backup.

If you have Cpanel on both your old and new host, you have the tools to migrate the forum and DB through there, then use the repair_settings.php from the downloadsection/tools here and make the changes for the url paths.

If you dont have Cpanel, you need to download the files manually to your local machine, and make a backup though PhPMyadmin for the DB.
If you read the documentation here on simplemachines

I did download all of my files from the ftp and downloaded the db files (backups) from phpmyadmin.

I will read on the link now.

thanks

One quick question.

The forum needs to be on the same DB as the joomla right that way the bridge works.

I got this hosting company where you can choose what you want to install and it does it for you. Well I installed the new forum but it made its own DB

Ok I fixed the problem. For some reason the files that were in the ftp was reading as a different kind of file.

I had to reupload 2 settings files and change all of the DB settings and URL settings. Now the site is up and running. Hopefully my hubby will let me do his this week.

Thank you all for your great help
