Hi,

My forum overnight came up with this error without anyone touching any of the coding.  I have another forum on my server that is working but this one is not.

Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

It has had this error for several days now.  My other forum on the server still works fine

Interesting.  I'm having the exact same problem.  One site is generating that error, while the other has no issues (and a much larger database).

Check the Settings.php file.  See if it is blank.

If it is, replace it with settings_bak.php, then make a copy of it called settings_bak.php.

CHMOD both to 644 if this happens repeatedly.  You'll be unable to use repair_settings.php or Admin => Server settings with it in that state without first chmodding it back to 777, but it will prevent it from being erased.

If not, ensure your connection information is correct.  If the problem persists -- contact your host.

Also, depending on your hosts, you may (such as GoDaddy) have more than one database server in use and so one forum may work fine while another is down completely. If that is the case then you could check with your hosting company for more information.
