Convert HTML-entities to UTF-8 characters hangs after 59.8 % done

Hi,
I have a problem with my SMF 1.1.6 / TP 0.983

I wanted to convert the Database to UTF-8 format

The first part ran through,
but now I still need
Convert HTML-entities to UTF-8 characters

When I click on proceed it makes 2or 3 trials and runs until
59.8 % is done and then does not go further and sometimes
comes back with a MySQL error.

But mostly it just hangs there and nothing is happening, also if I press the
continue button.
The mouse symbol is still busy..I am using Firefox 3.03 browser...

WHat could this be ?

I also have strange characters in my forum, especially the aposstropes
e.g in words like "don´t"  have strange charracters...

when the processes are running, is there any processes also running in MySQL?  i believe phpmyadmin has a function to let you view the processlist.
