There really is no simple way to accomplish this. Many have asked this question and, as near as I've been able to tell from all the responses, the problem lies with the enumeration of the posts. Each forum will have, to give a basic explanation, post 21... So if Forum A has a "post 21" and Forum B has a "post 21" things go just plain BAD if you try to mix them.

I am not 100% certain BUT I believe some industrious person changed the post number value for each and every single post (by hand) to a higher number and then imported it. I highly recommend against that however. Err... At least not with multiple backups and a lot of patience.

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

There are a few merge scripts around on the community if you search, and a team member is working on one... but all the scripts cant be guaranteed to work.

#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'MERGE INTO `smf_messages`

Nice and do let us know how you get along. As long as the IDs don't conflict it seems to go fairly well for most people (I have never tried this and really hope I never have to) but it is when they don't that there seems to be a bunch of issues and a lot of headaches.
