Being new, I'm wondering about the FTP info

The FTP information that this asked for made me curious: where did it go and is it safe? Normally, when I install a script like Invision board, phpbb, Xoops, etc, I have to chmod a few files to 444 in order to keep them protected, but when I installed this software it didn't ask for anything. So I'm wondering where the information went, if it is safe, and what steps are taken to ensure it's safety. Also, why did it need it to begin with? Like I said, I'm new to Simple Machines. It looks like a really good piece of software though.

It does not save the FTP information anywhere (I think it tells you this, if not it should..) and it uses it to resolve any chmod problems it runs across instead of bugging you to do it. (why bug you to do something technical when it's perfectly capable to do it itself?)

It's as safe as where ever you keep it, or where your host keeps it.  SMF promptly forgot it.

As I said above, something - like perhaps the attachments directory, or the settings file, etc... was not writable.  So, it asked for your FTP info to fix it for you.

ahha...I understand now. I figured that is what it was doing but was just making sure. So far, I have to say that this board is very awesome. I'm digging it. I'll probably use it when I convert my Invision Board Forums over. Thanks for the help.
