Strange behaviour of mods/admins!?

Hi,

I just wanted to ask why my SnowCrash-Account was banned by some moderator/admin with the reason "Trolling" without even sending some PM/eMail/ICQ-Message before doing so. My SnowCrash-account was active since nearly a year with ~400 postings... most of them helping people with their SMF/PHP problems. And now I'm banned? Probably some mods/admins/whatever don't like my way of saying what I'm thinking instead of bowing down and kissing their a*****

So I would be really glad to receive an email explaining to me why I was banned and who banned me.

this is really stange behaviour ...

snow is by fact the only person who can help (and is willing to) help with things like server issues and php issues in the german section.

okay, he speaks really clearly about things he dislike, but never in a impolite way.

This may have happened because of an IP ban, probably. I don't have access to that information, but I don't think it was intentional.

While this wasn't me, SnowCrash, I seem to remember reading somewhere that someone was quite insulted by something you said.  This has happened many a time before, but it seems that one of the people here with the power to do so decided you needed a breather.

I'm not getting involved, or saying anything more.  It's not really my business.

But I will say that, while I do see you often helping people who have problems with YaBB SE and SMF, I've also noticed that you - again, since YaBB SE 2 and I know you'll deny it - have developed an attitude against SMF to a degree, and our team - in fact, to some extent, just me, and I know that sounds self-centered.  I know you've had more than one "falling out", and deleted yourself at least twice I can remember, and I'm afraid I'll never really be able to understand why.  I can't remember ever doing anything against you, nor do I know of anyone on the team doing anything as such....

But I don't know everything.  Like most of the details in this case.  I'm sorry you got post banned, but I can't comply with your demand for an explanation.

Strange taht nobody ever said anything to me about being insulted. And I don't know even one posting where I insulted somebody personally.

As I already explained to you... It has nothing to do with SMF not being YSE2/Trinity... I've got a problem with other things... I left the Dev-Team because I don't like the direction SMF went. In my opinion its still nothing more than a "hobby-script" lacking a lot of "professionality"... and my personal opinion is, that a lot of opportunities were thrown away... just look at the template-system... OK, its easier to change things than back in YSE-times but not very much easier.... it still mixes PHP+HTML and that way, its hard for non-coders to change it... if I remember right, Zef offered his compiling template engine but it wasn't used.... take a look at the PM-system... its soooooooooooooo old fashoned that it hurts.... and there are lots of other things that fall into the "lost opportunity" category... instead of improving those things, other things are changed and discussed... like the way smf encrypts passwords... instead of using md5, salted-md5 is used which is incompatible with 99,9% of all other scripts and doesn't increase the security at all... there is one collision-based attack known against md5 which only works under very special cicumstances... and if somebody knows the md5 or steals your cookie, thats all he need... at least to hack your board-account...

I think I know why I got banned and who did it... I think its because of my last posting on the german board regarding the theme contest (at least that was the last real posting i made before i was banned) where i stated that most of the themes are poorly designed of not useable for forums... and if i was banned because of that posting, then its even more ridiculous than i thought ;D

Uhm... and by the way... if I'm soooo anti-smf... why did I recommend SMF to somebody on another board (treo's inside-php board) just a few days ago?

Christian you miss the point. Indeed some team discussion started because of this post:

What you miss is that you do here not insult the team but all those who participated in the contest. IMHO such a post is simply primitive, mean and ufair - definitely does not hit me or another team member personally. Pretty sure you don't understand this - I remember I tried to discuss with you earlier about similar behaviour and you had not the slightest insight.  We wish a polite and respectful atmosphere in the forums such that people for example not feel bad who ask a dumb question, say goodbye when they go into holidays or participated in a theme contest.

I don't know what your reason is to behave here as you like to do. Hopefully it somehow makes you feel better after you have posted your aggressive posts.

I suggested to give you the custome title "SnowTroll" - looks like someone decided for a week post ban. I can fully understand this and support the person who activated the ban. Your chance to learn something.... Take it or leave it.  >:(

Andrea, if you banned him for this one posting:
This posting didnt hurt me personally and I guess also not many of the others who sent a theme to the contest (since they dont speak german ;) ). It's the truth. Many times the people just say "hey, great theme!". Snow said what you can make better. Maybe it hurts people since they spent many hours in creating a theme, but it is senseless if you dont tell them what they did wrong. I also didnt get much feedback for my theme (someone said that he does not like blue...), so I'm very happy about postings like this one.

Wissi as I already wrote did not post ban him personally. Someone else activated the ban - which I as I wrote can understand and support - since the trolling did not happen for the 1st time. So that 1 week post ban was clearly not done only because of this single post.
