Installing n Bridging for someone else, Illegal?

Ok I am not having any problems in any bridges or such.
What Question I have is quite related to legal issues. Except the Joomla bridge, If I install The X CMS/Gallery or whatever and integrate it to SMF(I install the bridge) for someone else(Maybe for some Money), It won't be illegal right?

Depends on the license. For software licensed under GPL, then no it won't be illegal. For commercial software then yes. For other software, it all depends on the license.

I meant for Free CMS/Softwares
Like
E107,
Mambo,
CopperMine,
Gallery2 etc etc etc.

All software is licensed... I am unfamiliar with those software, so I do not know the terms of their licenses. Open their license files and see for yourself what you can do.

The term "free" can have one of two meaning. Free sofrware that you cna download and use. But may not do anything else with. Then there is free software that you can do anything you please with.

E107 (hven't checked the others) is licensed under the GPL I mentioned earlier. Heres a quote from their license file.

From what I understand, you can do pretty much anything you want with E107, even charge for the service. Read their entire file to know exactly.

EDIT: To clearify. Bridging software meanings modifing them. In the case of E107, you can do that legally. You can also do it for someone else. and you can charge them for it.

Another edit: I'm sorry that my post is long and probably confusing, but license issues ARE a big deal, as you can get into trouble if you break them.

yes its legal if it was not then we had no bridges in our download section here at smf
for gallery2 and coppermine look at their sites ! for more information  ;D

I meant, Installing via a 3rd party person. I was just concerned about that would cause any legal conflicts or so, Paid or Free in any means.

As I said in my post, it depends on the license. But I bet that most of the ones you listed would be GPL or similar license anyway, allowing you to pretty much do what you want with them. I'd say that there'd be no problem with you setting up the software for other people. The only legal conflicts with E107 (the only one I looked at) would be if you modified it, distributed it but didn't distribute the source, I think. Need to read up on GPL.

Hope I've been helpful :) Take the time to read a license. Based on your sig I'm assuming you want to make a paid service out of this, so... read the license and if your unsure, ask the developers directly.

Yes, Almost every one of them is on GPL, Which I guess is no problem.

You can do work for money.  You can even create a bridge between SMF and Joomla for a user, install it for them, and charge them for the work you have done.  Licenses like the GPL apply only to distribution of software.  They do not apply to labour.
